Embattled acting chairman of the EFCC,\u00a0Ibrahim Magu faces further scrutiny
\nfrom the Senate after it emerged that a businessman under investigation
\npaid N40m for his\u00a0accommodation, according to security report by the DSS.
\nThe DSS also alleged that retired Air Commodore Mohammed Umar paid the sum
\nof N40m for the rented apartment, which costs N20m per annum.<\/p>\n
Umar has been under investigation for\u00a0alleged money laundering and illegal
\npossession of firearms, reliable security and presidency sources have told
\nPER SECOND NEWS.<\/p>\n
He has been accused of using the name of the president and other top
\nofficials of the administration to intimidate, extort and blackmail
\nindividuals and businesses.<\/p>\n
Magu plagued by more corruption allegations is a close friend of Umar.
\nThe DSS also alleged that after renting the apartment for Magu, Umar
\nawarded a N43m contract for the furnishing of the accommodation.<\/p>\n
The report also highlight the extravagant lifestyle of the EFCC boss, who
\nhas a penchant for flying first class against the Buhari administration’s
\ndirectives to fly economy class.<\/p>\n
The DSS also claimed that the EFCC boss was once in the same flight to
\nMaiduguri with a Managing Director of one of the new generation banks, who
\nit alleged was under investigation.<\/p>\n
It added that the bank chief had been linked with a former Minister of
\nPetroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.<\/p>\n
The DSS stated that after the arrest of service chiefs by the EFCC,
\nincluding Badeh, Umar and Amosu, Magu\u2019s ally, while under interrogation by
\nthe service, had confessed that he didn\u2019t want Amosu to be probed, the
\nreason why the EFCC arraigned Amosu after his friend\u2019s interrogation.<\/p>\n
The acting EFCC boss was also accused in the report of making false
\nallegations against individuals \u201cfor personal reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n
The report said, \u201cThe circumstances surrounding the return of Magu to the
\nEFCC and the role played by Lamorde and their close relationship are clear
\nindications of his culpability in the allegation of corruption tendencies
\nof the Lamorde-led EFCC.\u201d<\/p>\n
The DSS also alleged that \u201cMagu uses only his police cronies to execute
\noperations,\u201d adding that the fact that the cronies had acquired landed
\nproperties \u201cled credence to the questions about his integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The report added, \u201cIn this light, Magu has failed the integrity test and
\nwill eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption drive of the
