Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has hailed the National Assembly
\nfor standing firm against the anti-people policies of the President
\nMohammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent times,
\nsaying; \u201cpersistent rejection of the President Buhari\u2019s policies by a
\nNational Assembly that is controlled by his own party is an indirect way
\nof passing vote of no confidence on the President and a call to action by
\nthe president and his men to take proper stock.\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor, who expressed happiness that \u201ceven the National Assembly
\nmembers have now seen what he had seen since the beginning of the present
\nAPC led Federal Government and are now standing up in defence of the
\nordinary Nigerians, who are suffering as a result of bad policies of the
\nfederal government.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a release issued on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Public
\nCommunications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was
\nheart-warming that the National Assembly helped Nigerians to prevent the
\nplanned data tariff increase, with the National Communication Commission
\n(NCC) suspending the new minimum pricing template for data services by
\nmobile operators in deference to the Senate resolution.<\/p>\n
The governor said; \u201cIn the last few months, the National Assembly as an
\ninstitution has come to the aid of the suffering masses of Nigeria by
\nstopping the federal government bad policies.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of such major interventions were the stoppage of the planned data
\ntariff increase, resolution urging the Nigeria Customs Service
\n(NCS) to suspend the ban on the importation of vehicles through land
\nborders, and opposition of the planned closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
\nInternational Airport, Abuja, for the repairs of its runway and the
\ndiversion of flights to the Kaduna airport.<\/p>\n
\u201cParticularly, even though elementary economists should know that ban on
\nthe importation of vehicles through land borders would cause loss of
\nseveral thousands of jobs and further make vehicles unaffordable for
\nordinary Nigerians, the federal government adopted the policy without
\nminding its adverse effects on Nigerians.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso, they knew that a complete shutdown of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
\nInternational Airport, Abuja and diversion of flights to the Kaduna
\nairport will endanger the lives of both local and international air
\ntravellers that will have to travel by land from Kaduna to Abuja and
\nfurther jeopardise the economy of the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of closing the Abuja airport completely, why not use the VIP
\nsection?<\/p>\n
\u201cIt appears this government of President Buhari is just here to inflict
\nhardships on Nigerians and I commend the National Assembly for standing
\nfirmly on the side of the masses by showing to the whole world that the
\nPresident and his government no longer enjoy the confidence of the people,
