Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose in this interview with
\nnewsmen in Abuja on Friday lashed out at the leadership of the
\nEconomic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, describing the
\nanti-graft agency as the most corrupt organisation in Nigeria. The PDP
\nGovernors’ Forum Chairman in the interview also blamed the barrage of
\nchallenges facing Nigeria as a country on ineptitude on the part of
\nPresident Muhammadu Buhari Excerpts:<\/p>\n
Question: Persons under the name “Patriotic Mothers” raised some
\nallegations asking the EFCC to probe your involvement in $2.1b arms
\ndeal in what they call “racket”. What do you make of the allegation
\nSir?<\/p>\n
Fayose: Well, they are naive and if they have alleged me, they all
\nhave to wait.\u00a0 You will recall that about 6\/7 months ago, they said
\nthey were investigating arms deal,\u00a0 they froze my account,\u00a0 I got
\njudgement against them, it is obvious they are worried about my rising
\nprofile, my very steady position at criticising the oversteppings of
\nthe APC led federal government. They are worried and they know this
\nplatform will make it more meaningful and give all the necessary
\nstrength.<\/p>\n
Why did they wait till now for that protest, apparently they want to
\ngive an impression other than Fayose being the Chairman of PDP
\nGovernors’ Forum and they are wasting their time.<\/p>\n
In the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, I don’t want to go
\ntoo far, many of the officers there have been indicted, even in the
\nEFCC,\u00a0 Magu has been indicted,\u00a0 not only indicted,\u00a0 indicted by the
\nSSS,\u00a0 an institution under the Federal Government.\u00a0 When the judges
\nwere indicted, they had to step down,\u00a0 so what is Magu still doing
\nthere.\u00a0 EFCC is the most corrupt organisation set up for a personal
\nagenda,\u00a0 funny enough, they issued the statement, not even the so
\ncalled protesters, they issued a statement of the protest to the
\npublic.\u00a0 Where does EFCC derive the power to arrest a sitting governor
\nfrom, they think we are still in the old banana Republic under the
\nObasanjo Administration.<\/p>\n
They are worried about this new status, being Chairman of the PDP
\nGovernors’ Forum, so if they want to prosecute people,\u00a0 they should
\nfirst of all prosecute Magu using SSS report, so they are worried
\nabout the development and my being nominated as the Chairman of PDP
\nGovernors’ Forum.\u00a0 The group is a faceless organisation sponsored by
\nEFCC in an attempt to water down the God given position which they
\nbelieve is a platform that will affect them negatively.<\/p>\n
Question: They also fought the EFCC de-freezing your account asking
\nEFCC to appeal that judgement.<\/p>\n
Fayose: They are irresponsible, when judgments go their way, they say
\nwhatever they like about the court, any judge that doesn’t work with
\nthem they arrest and blackmail them. So, can you be a prosecutor and a
\njudge at the same time?\u00a0 Can you be a judge in your own matter? It is
\na show of executive recklessness,\u00a0 abuse of office, so if they want to
\nprobe anybody,\u00a0 they should get hold of Magu, they should remove the
\nlog in their own eyes before they talk about others.\u00a0 I am a sitting
\ngovernor enjoying the comfort\u00a0 of my office. Understand?<\/p>\n
So, those hired protesters should be paid their dues and allowed to go
\nback home. They didn\u2019t even have a statement,\u00a0 so what do we say to so
\nmany people indicted under the Buhari led administration that has not
\neven been called to come and answer questions.\u00a0 People that have
\nhouses abroad, people that they mention their names openly that they
\nare involved in IDP fraud, somebody needs to tell them we have gone
\nbeyond that level of trying to corner Nigerians with corruption
\nallegations. People are now wiser, we don’t want to hear the rhetoric,
\nthey should use another strategy,\u00a0 that one stopped working a long
\ntime ago, not even with a smart man like me, you understand.<\/p>\n
EFCC is the most corrupt organisation in this country, have you ever
\nseen any EFCC chairman leave honourably before?\u00a0 They always leave in
\ndisgrace, they always leave that office in disgrace because they are
\ncorrupt people,\u00a0 they dwell on political issues, harass you on
\npolitical grounds, on vendetta rather than do the needful,\u00a0 that is
\nwhy they can’t achieve much.\u00a0 That is why the so called corruption is
\nnot going down in the country because how can an armed robber be
\npursuing a petty thief.<\/p>\n
Question: How do we then kill corruption in Nigeria?<\/p>\n
Fayose: You see, not until the operators remove the logs in their
\neyes, they can’t go far, some lawyers are today hired to defend things
\nthey ordinarily\u00a0 ought not to defend, they have made a mess, a mockery
\nof the judiciary.\u00a0 Today, judges will give judgment and people will be
\nprotesting, behaving as if you are in a Banana Republic,\u00a0 it is odd,
\nit is irresponsible, things we see in this administration are things
\nwe thought were of the past.<\/p>\n
The federal government\u00a0 should pay attention to hunger that is
\nravaging the land, they are the same people who set up the IDP camps
\nand they are the same people who went to bomb them, the genocide in
\nKaduna is there staring us in the face, killings everyday,\u00a0 over 3000
\npeople killed,\u00a0 their throats sliced,\u00a0 buried in mass graves and you
\nwill see military personnel being part of it, supervising it, the
\nvideos are everywhere,\u00a0 all they can do is to ban soldiers from
\nholding camera phones when on duty. That is ridiculous,\u00a0 they say
\nsoldiers should not hold phones because patriotic soldiers who see
\nthings going on there send most of these things to the public.<\/p>\n
When this type of things happen in a nation, it shows the weakness of
\nthe leadership of that nation, unfortunately, the president is so
\nweak, so old and inept to know what is going on in the country, the
