Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has revealed that he officially
\nwrote to President Muhammadu Buhari asking that the two armoured
\nhelicopters bought by the immediate past administration in the state .be
\nhanded over to the Nigerian Air Force.<\/p>\n
He explained that he wrote the letter following the high custom duty
\ncharged for the helicopters and the refusal of the present administration
\nto grant the Rivers State Government the waiver to clear the two armoured
\nhelicopters.<\/p>\n
A statement issued by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers
\nState Governor on Electronic Media informed that the governor spoke during
\nan interview with editors of Sun Newspapers Titles on Saturday in Port
\nHarcourt.<\/p>\n
The governor said that it was unfortunate that Security Agencies would
\nresort to political propaganda and outright lies, when the facts of the
\ntwo armoured helicopters are public knowledge.<\/p>\n
He said: “These helicopters were imported by the immediate past
\nadministration. When I assumed office, we wrote to the Federal government
\nthat it was strictly \u00a0for security use. What am\u00a0I going to\u00a0use armoured
\nhelicopters \u00a0for?<\/p>\n
“In any case, where will the Rivers State Government get money at this
\ntime to import armoured helicopters. The previous \u00a0administration
\nimported it because \u00a0they had the money.<\/p>\n
“I went to to the Federal Government to give me a waiver for us to clear
\nthe helicopters, but the Federal Government refused.<\/p>\n
“I wrote a letter to the President and\u00a0 to assure him that the helicopters
\nare meant for security \u00a0purposes, it should be handed over to the Nigerian
\nAir Force “.<\/p>\n
The governor added: “I am surprised \u00a0that they have started propaganda
\nand political falsehood \u00a0on the said armoured \u00a0helicopters. \u00a0What kind of
\ncountry are they turning Nigeria into ?<\/p>\n
“We stated that we cannot pay the custom duties because the helicopters
\nare not for commercial \u00a0use. They are to be used to monitor the creeks
\nand track criminals.<\/p>\n
“I wrote to the President to give the helicopters \u00a0to the Airforce. \u00a0It is
\nshocking that the custom would \u00a0turn around to claim that they impounded
\nthe helicopters. The Chief of Staff to the President \u00a0admitted that I have
\ndone well when I wrote the letter to the President “.<\/p>\n
It will be recalled that the immediate \u00a0past Governor of Rivers State,
\nRotimi Amaechi in December 2012 announced the payment of two helicopters
\nfor security surveillance.

The rumoured death of President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to spark up
\ncontroversies among a section of Nigerians on the social media.<\/p>\n
This is coming after the new picture, which was posted on Friday night,
\nshowed the president in a relaxed mood with some of his visitors,
\nincluding Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.<\/p>\n
The new photos were posted on Facebook Friday night by President Buhari\u2019s
\npersonal assistant, Bashir Ahmad and another user, Buhari Sallau.<\/p>\n
Sallau captioned the photos: \u201cToday in London President Muhammadu Buhari
\nwith some guests, among them Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun\u2026. yet,
\nSome Haters are saying the President is dead or sick in hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n
But there are strong indications that the photos are old because
\nimmediately the photos were shared, some analysts expressed their
\nreservation, many of whom have said the photo was from President Buhari\u2019s
\nvisit to the UK last year.<\/p>\n
A user, Jeffy Jeff commented: \u201cI don\u2019t wish Mr President dead but this pic
\nwas taken at his previous trip to London on health ground when Atiku
\nvisited him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another, Prince Adetunji Adepoju Adedinni, claimed Amosun was in Ogun
\nstate yesterday and couldn\u2019t have been in the UK.
\nHe wrote, \u201dGov. Amosun is currently in Ogun state and that is him on the
\nseat there. How come? This pic was a visit of his last visit when Amosun
\nvisited him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe IG and top police officers went on Tuesday, the governors are making
\nplans to go too and they want us to believe all is well with the
\npresident?? Why is this sudden visit to a man who left the country just
\nfew days ago and should be on his way back to the country in few days from
\nnow? What are they going to hurriedly tell him that is not worth waiting
\nor probably put a call through to him in UK??<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t believe some Nigerians could be this gullible! Something is fishy
\nand the earlier we are informed about it, the better.\u201d<\/p>\n
