Concerned that the hierarchy of the Department of State Services (DSS) has
\nembarked on deliberate clamp down of vocal Christian leaders opposed to
\nthe incessant killings of farmers all over Nigeria by armed Fulani
\nterrorists, a Rights group – HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA
\n(HURIWA) has raised alarm calling for caution to avoid catastrophic
\nreligious crisis in the Country.<\/p>\n
The pro-democracy and Non-Governmental organisation- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS
\nASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has specifically condemned the invitation
\nfor interrogation by the Departmentof State Services of the Edo state born
\nPentacosatal leader and founding pastor of Omega Fire ministry Worldwide
\nReverend Apostle Johnson Suleiman \u00a0who has consistently called for self
\ndefence against the unbridled but primitive attacks of Nigerians by well
\narmed and well coordinated Fulani herdsmen.<\/p>\n
HURIWA has totally condemned the unwillingness \u00a0of security forces in
\nNigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration whose leadership
\nare majorly dominated by Hausa\/Fulani Moslem Northerners who have done
\nnothing whilst armed Fulani terrorists kill thousands of Christian farmers
\nall across Nigeria and mostly the Christian dominated Communities in
\nKaduna, Benue, Plateau and Taraba states. \u00a0The group wonder why the DSS
\ndoes not want Nigerians under attacks by Fulani hoodlums to adopt self
\nDefence to stay alive even when chapter four of the Nigerian Constitution
\nof 1999 (as amended) makes RIGHT TO LIFE A SACRED FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN
\nRIGHT.<\/p>\n
HURIWA recalled that the Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide,
\nApostle Johnson Suleman, was invited by the Department of State Services
\nto appear at its National Headquarters in Abuja for interrogation on
\nMonday January 30th 2017 by 10:00 am. HURIWA has therefore cautioned DSS
\nto avoid stoking the embers of religious violence in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
HURIWA said the invitation is believed to be connected to Suleman\u2019s
\nalleged inciting comments that Christians should defend themselves against
\nattacks by Fulani herdsmen even as the group lambasted the DSS for failing
\nin its constitutional \u00a0duty of preventing the frequent bloodsheds by armed
\nFulani terrorists. HURIWA said what the DSS would have done was for the
\nDirector General to resign forthwith rather than turning his aggression
\nagainst the innocent Christian leader who as a father has played the
\nfatherly role of asking his followers to defend their right to life.<\/p>\n
In a statement in reaction to the invitation the civil society group
\nwarned the officials of the DSS to stop painting the graphic impression
\nthat there is a deliberate attempt by the Presidency to Islamize Nigeria
\nby deploying government’s \u00a0 armed agencies to intimidate, harass and
\nphysically brutalize Christian \u00a0leaders only because they refuse to keep
\nsilent whilst armed Fulani terrorists kill their members and parents
\nwithout the Nigerian security \u00a0forces ever adopting fool proof strategy
\nto arrest, prosecute and punish these armed hoodlums who are operating
\nwithout let or hindrance.<\/p>\n
HURIWA through its National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the
\nNational Media Affairs Director Miss. Zainab Yusuf said it amounts to
\ndouble standards for the DSS to go after Christian Leaders for speaking
\nout in defence of their members even when leaders of other Ethno-religious
\ncommunities in the core North are not arrested even when there are proven
\ncases of abduction and false marriages of child brides as has happened in
\nKatsina Emirate.<\/p>\n
“We are shocked that the DSS that couldn’t \u00a0stop the genocides of Southern
\nKaduna, Agatu community in Benue \u00a0and the attacks of Enugu and Abia states
\nall by armed Fulani terrorists is now in a dangerous hurry even at the
\nthreat of igniting inter-religious warfare to arrest Christian Leaders
\nwhose only ‘crime’ is to counsel their members not to standby and allow
\ntheir lives be taken away by armed marauders.”<\/p>\n
“The invitation \u00a0to Apostle Johnson Suleiman is an invitation to anarchy
\nand this divide-and-rule tactics of the Alhaji Daura-led DSS hierarchy is
\nabsolutely \u00a0condemnable, reprehensible, illegal, unconstitutional and
\ntotally unjustifiable. \u00a0Let all Nigerians of goodwill speak out now before
\nthis current leadership of DSS drag Nigeria into a needless religious
