A statement which Lai Mohammed, minister of information, issued in
\nDecember 2009 when he was spokesman of the Action Congress (AC), is
\ntrending on social media.<\/p>\n
In the statement, Mohammed demanded a daily update on the health condition
\nof the then President Umaru Musa Yar\u2019Adua, who eventually died in office.<\/p>\n
The refusal of those in the presidency to give a clear picture about
\nYar\u2019Adua\u2019s state of health had sparked controversy, and the opposition
\nspokesman raised the alarm.<\/p>\n

The Action Congress (AC) has renewed its call on the federal government to
\ngive Nigerians a daily update on the health of President Umaru Yar\u2019Adua to
\nstem the growing rumours surrounding his state of health.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity
\nSecretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the current situation
\nwhereby ministers and aides of the President give out uncoordinated
\ninformation on his health, is doing more harm than good.<\/p>\n
Therefore, a daily briefing by the Minister of Information, based on
\nauthentic details provided by the President\u2019s doctors, should start
\nforthwith. As we have said many times, the health of the President, as a
\npublic figure can no longer be of interest only to his family and friends.
\nNigerians have a right to know.<\/p>\n
The party also called on the Federal Executive Council,FEC, the only body
\nconstitutionally empowered to start the process of determining whether or
\nnot the President can continue in office on the basis of his health, to
\nrise above mundane considerations and put the nation\u2019s interest first.<\/p>\n
The scenario is very similar to what is happening in the current
\nadministration, but Mohammed is now singing a different tune.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was supposed to resume duty
\nafter a 10-day vacation in the UK, said he would be away indefinitely.<\/p>\n
According to the statement issued by Femi Adesina, Buhari\u2019s spokesman, the
\npresident\u2019s doctors advised him to wait in the UK until the result of some
\nof the tests he did were out.<\/p>\n
