The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has sent the name of the Acting Chief
\nJustice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, to the National Assembly for
\nconfirmation as the substantive CJN.<\/p>\n
The presidency made the nomination known via its Twitter handle
\n@NGRPresident on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Buhari had, on November 10, 2016, inaugurated Onnoghen as acting CJN
\nfollowing the retirement of Justice Mahmud Mohammed at the attainment of
\nthe mandatory 70-year retirement age.<\/p>\n
The National Judicial Council had earlier forwarded Onnoghen\u2019s name to the
\nPresident to be named the new CJN based on the recommendation of the
\nFederal Judicial Service Commission.<\/p>\n
Onnoghen was born on the 22nd December, 1950 at Okurike Town, Biase L.G.A.
\nof Cross Rivers State.<\/p>\n
He attended the Presbyterian Primary School, Okurike Town between 1959 and
\n1965.<\/p>\n
He later proceeded to Accra, Ghana to attend Odorgorno Secondary School,
\nAdabraka, Accra, Ghana between 1967 and 1972 for his West African
\nExamination Council (WAEC) Exams.<\/p>\n
He was at Accra Academy, Accra Ghana between 1972 and 1974 for his WAEC
\n(A-Levels) before proceeding to the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana
\nbetween 1974 and 1977 to obtain his Bachelor of Law Degree (LL.B (Hons))
\nand graduated with 2nd Class Upper Division.<\/p>\n
He attended the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos between 1977
\nand 1978 for his B.L certificate.<\/p>\n
