Coalitions of young People Democratic Party, PDP leaders today in a press
\nconference, gave the leaders of the two factions a 45 days ultimatum to
\nworkout modalities for conducting a national convention, failure of which
\nthey will mobilise PDP youths en mass across the nation to withdraw their
\nsupport for the party.<\/p>\n
The statement which was signed by Barr. Anthony Ehilebo of Rethink Nigeria
\nand Mrs. Obianuju Ogoko of PDP E-Women Network and other youth groups
\nwithin the party also demanded the inclusion of 60% of young people in the
\nconvention committee.<\/p>\n

PDP LEADERSHIP CRISIS:A CALL TO ORDER!<\/p>\n
The importance and relevance of young people to the evolution and
\ndevelopment of Politics in today’s world can not be over emphasised.
\nAs far as elections in Nigeria are concerned, young people account for an
\noverwhelming majority of the voter population at all levels.
\nThe 2011 General Elections data from the Independent National Electoral
\nCommission (INEC) indicates that over 70% of aggregate voters consists
\nyoung people and women. The 2015 Elections followed a similar trend.
\nThe relevance of young people in elections is equally shown in the voter
\nstatistics obtained from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of
\nSouth Africa. Data for the South African elections held in May 2014
\nindicates that young people \u00a0accounted for more than 58% of the total
\nvoter population.<\/p>\n
In view of the aforementioned statistics, it is pertinent that young
\npeople play a front-line role in the determination of the affairs of
\nPolitical Parties of which our great Party, the PDP is no exception.
\nThis is especially in the light of the current leadership imbroglio which
\nhas engulfed our great Party for a while now.
\nThe leadership crisis occasioned by the Sherrif\/Makarfi impasse has
\nimpeded the progress of the Party while denying Nigeria and Nigerians the
\nright to a vibrant and credible opposition to the current APC government
\nat a time when our dear Country is ravaged by:<\/p>\n
A.Inflation
\nB.Insecurity
\nC.Hunger
\nD. Blatant abuse of fundamental human rights.
\nE.Unprecedented levels of unemployment
\nF. Incessant kidnapping due to economic hardship
\nG.Nepotism, marginalization, ethnic \u00a0jingoism and crass favouritism.
\nH. Mindless butchery of innocent citizens across the nation (Just to
\nmention a few).<\/p>\n
We have carefully and painstakingly \u00a0 listened to and studied the
\nnarratives from both factions and have come to the conclusion that the
\nmajor reason for the quagmire we have found ourselves in was largely due
\nto the insistence of some party members on playing \u201cgod\u201d for personal
\ngratification over common interest.
\nThis quandary continues to defy the prospect of achieving a peaceful
\nresolution as it is obvious that the motivation of both parties is the
\n“winner takes all” syndrome and not the common good.<\/p>\n
We have for long sat back and allowed our leaders the opportunity to find
\na lasting and sustainable solution to this leadership dilemma. Regrettably
\nit has become evident that they have failed to articulate a firm solution
\nto this problem, hence the need to intervene with clear and concise lines
\nof action that would save our party from continued political irrelevance
\nimminent extinction.<\/p>\n
So therefore, we collectively request that the following lines of action
\nbe adopted as a workable solution to the prolonged crisis.<\/p>\n
1.That all factions meet immediately \u00a0to discuss the modalities for
\nconducting a National Convention unfailingly \u00a0within 45 days from today.<\/p>\n
2. That all convention committees must include a total of 60% of young
\npeople with unquestionable integrity who would monitor the electoral
\nprocess and ensure fairness and equity for all contestants irrespective of
\ntheir affiliation.<\/p>\n
3. That both parties meet and provide to the party in writing, a
\nresolution on their terms of involvement in the convention and also affirm
\nto accept and abide by the outcome of the convention.<\/p>\n
In the spirit of the “NO VICTOR, NO VANQUISHED” declaration by both
\nfactions prior to the Port Harcourt appeal court judgment, we call on all
\nfactions to shelve their indignations and personal interests and work
\ntowards ensuring the resurgence of the PDP as a viable opposition well
\npoised to to re-take power from the inept administration of the current
\nAPC government.<\/p>\n
We must state categorically that non-compliance to these lines of action
\nwill leave us with no option than to mobilise PDP youth en masse across
\nthe nation to withdraw their support for the party.<\/p>\n
We remain loyal members of the PDP, committed to selfless service to
