The Rivers Support Initiative, RSI, has disowned Rt. Hon. Chibuike
\nAmaechi, Nigeria\u2019s Minister of Transportation, over a statement said to
\nhave been credited to him, in which he allegedly claimed that Rivers
\nGovernor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike procured 150 hotel rooms in Lagos for guests
\nin celebration of his award\u00a0 as the Best Nigerian Performing Governor in
\n2016, on Saturday<\/span><\/span> by The Sun group of newspapers.<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by Barr. Collins Ibekazi Enyindah, Secretary General
\nof Rivers Support Initiative, the group described as unbecoming and petty,
\nAmaechi\u2019s attacks targeted at discrediting and distracting the purposeful
\nadministration of Governor Wike in Rivers State.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can a sane person wake up to the figment of his own imagination to
\nraise such an unfounded allegation knowing the same to be untrue,
\nparticularly when on the day of the said occasion, the hotel allocated
\nonly 17 rooms to Governor Wike and his guests, as other awardees were said
\nto have also taken up available spaces in the ever busy hotel\u201d, the group
\nargued.<\/p>\n

The Non Governmental Organization, NGO, also warned Mr. Amaechi, who they
\nalleged lives in a glass house not to throw stones, as doing so will
\ninsult the sensibilities of the Rivers people.<\/p>\n

The statement added that it may also provoke the sense of reminiscence of
\nthe people of how over 1.8 trillion naira of tax payers money was
\nallegedly siphoned by Amaechi while he was governor of Rivers State to
\nfinance the formation of the fragile contraption called APC, and for which
\nhe was personally rewarded with the office of Minister of Transportation,
\ndescribed as a grade A ministry for his personal benefit.<\/p>\n

RSI further posited as follows: \u201cWe only hope the Minister realize that
\nthe era of carting away people\u2019s money to finance interests that have no
\ndirect benefit on Rivers people is over. Our people will certainly no
\nlonger tolerate a man who has since abandoned them, without even a hut in
\nhis village to establish affinity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is obvious that Mr. Amaechi has lost his bearing, and there is a total
\ndisconnect with Rivers people and what is happening around them, and
\nshould concentrate on the job given to him in Abuja for which Rivers
\npeople are expecting him to attract legitimate benefits due them as of
\nright and leave Governor Wike alone to concentrate on the good works he is
\ndoing in the state, and for which the Acting President appropriately
\nnicknamed him ”Mr. Project”.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalking about recklessness in spending of public funds,\u00a0 coming from a
\nman who was associated with reckless spending of public funds while in
\noffice as Governor of Rivers State can only amount to a kettle calling a
\npot black\u201d, the statement added.<\/p>\n

The group further\u00a0 advised the former Governor of the state to keep off
\nGovernor Wike or face the wrath of the entire Rivers people who are
