Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party
\n(PDP) Governors Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose has slammed the Independent
\nNational Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, especially
\nthe police on their roles in subverting the rights of Nigerians to
\nchoose their leaders in free, fair and credible elections.<\/p>\n
He said; \u201cWhile we continue to watch with keen interest, revelations
\ncoming from the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal, the open
\ndisplay of partisanship in the Rivers State rerun elections has made
\nit so obvious that INEC and police have become so shameless in their
\nopen display of support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).\u201d<\/p>\n
Governor Fayose\u2019s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New
\nMedia, Lere Olayinka, quoted the governor as saying in a release
\nissued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday that it was worrisome that INEC and
\nthe Police are no longer hiding their alliance with the APC against
\nNigerians.<\/p>\n
He said; \u201cWe have seen the police and INEC going back and forth on
\nRivers State rerun elections and I wish to ask the police; what
\nhappened to that suspect, Christian Chukwuemela Ekikeme, who
\nreportedly confessed to the complicity of some APC top-shots in the
\nmurder of DSP Mohammed Alkali?<\/p>\n
“Shouldn\u2019t the police be more interested in bringing those who
\nallegedly killed its officer to justice?<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso, what has happened to that Yobe State INEC Resident Electoral
\nCommissioner (REC) that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
\n(EFCC) established to have received N15 million bribe to rig the Yobe
\nState election?\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor warned that any attempt to rig the 2018 governorship
\nelection in Ekiti State will be resisted by the people, saying; \u201cHere
\nin Ekiti, we are waiting for them. If INEC and its ally, APC like,
\nthey can print as many Form EC8A as it can, they will fail.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said; \u201cIt is sad that snatching of ballot boxes, hijacking of
\nvoting materials, electoral violence and most importantly,
\nfalsification of election results, which had become a thing of the
\npast have returned to our electoral process. INEC and security
\nagencies, especially the police have merged with the APC and the way
\nthey are going, results of elections will one day be announced in
\nAbuja in favour of APC without casting a single
\nballot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Governor Fayose, who called on the international community, especially
\nelection observers to pay more attention to the conduct of elections
\nin Nigeria under the APC government, said; \u201cDemocracy is in danger in
\nNigeria! God forbid, if Nigeria is allowed to sink beyond the level
\nthat it is now, the entire continent of Africa will not be able to
