Top defense \u00a0and security chiefs today briefed Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo \u00a0on the current security situation in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Present were the National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Moguno, a retired Major General; Department of State Services (DSS) Director General (DG) Lawal Daura; Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Gabriel Onolishakin; Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas; Chief of Air Staff Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar among others.
\nThe security session which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, afforded the service chiefs and the minister of defence the opportunity to update Osinbajo on the security situation across the country.<\/p>\n
Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, in a brief remark at the commencement of the meeting said \u201cOn behalf of the armed forces and other security agencies, we pledge our total commitment and loyalty to the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria\u201d.<\/p>\n
While expressing the appreciation of the military and security community to the current administration for its relentless support and continuous funding of the armed forces in the conduct of its operations Dan-Ali said the support \u201chas no doubt impacted positively on the capacity of our armed forces and troops in fighting the Boko Haram terrorists in the North East and other security threats across the country\u201d.<\/p>\n
President Buhari is currently on in the United Kingdom (UK), where he has been on medical treatment in the last five weeks.<\/p>\n
Highlights of the opening remark include the efforts of the military in tackling the activities of cattle rustlers and armed bandits in the entire North West; update on the ongoing military operation in the North East, which the defense minister said has recorded tremendous success; military operations in Boko Haram camps as well as the recovery of arms and ammunition from bandits in Zamfara.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
