Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state today flagged off construction
\nof two kilometer Bichi township road, headquarters of Bichi local
\ngovernment area, at the cost of N200 million, as well as water
\nreticulation system in the town at the cost N137 million.<\/p>\n
The first project entails renovation and asphalting of the road, provision
\nof streetlights and drainages while the water project consist of pipe
\nlaying from Watari water treatment plant to the town, provision of two
\nover head tanks in addition to construction and maintenance of water
\npipeworks, including pumping systems and access chambers.<\/p>\n
The governor explained that the government decided to embark upon the two
\nprojects because of the strategic importance of Bichi local government,
\nwhich is among the oldest local government areas in the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not unaware of the plight of people in this very historic town and
\nthe support you have been giving to our administration. We are determined
\nto improving your living condition and that of all rural dwellers in Kano.
\nOurs is a government committed to ensuring even spread of projects in all
\nthe 44 local government areas\u201d, the governor maintained.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that over 400 boreholes were drilled under the first phase
\nof the state rural water supply initiative while the drilling of 789
\nboreholes under the second phase recently commenced, as part of moves to
\nmake life better for rural inhabitants.<\/p>\n
Governor Ganduje also flagged off construction of the 12 kilometer Saye \u2013
\nBabban Gida \u2013 Ganduje road project cutting across Bichi and Dawakin tofa
\nlocal government areas, expected to gulp about N150 million.<\/p>\n
According to him, the project, which is under the state Integrated Rural
\nDevelopment initiative tagged \u201cKarkara Salamu Alaikum\u201d, aims to achieve
\nbroader access to markets and social services by the rural dwellers.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the government has commenced the construction of 500
\nkilometers out of the 1, 000 kilometers of remote roads to connect rural
\ncommunities to bring out food from their villages to urban markets and to
\ngenerally enhance economic and social endeavors.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of Bichi local government council, Alhaji Sani Mukkadas,
\nexpressed appreciation to the governor, assuring of their continued
