{"id":57092,"date":"2017-04-05T16:40:25","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T15:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=57092"},"modified":"2017-04-05T16:40:25","modified_gmt":"2017-04-05T15:40:25","slug":"buhari-moves-fix-economy-launches-recovery-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/buhari-moves-fix-economy-launches-recovery-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Buhari Moves To Fix Economy, Launches Recovery Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2013025089\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Wednesday<\/span><\/span> inaugurated the Economic Recovery<br \/>\nand Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017-2020 with a call on Nigerians to support its<br \/>\nsmooth implementation to change Nigeria for good.<\/p>\n<p>The President, who inaugurated the plan in the Presidential Villa, Abuja,<br \/>\nassured that with its inauguration, his administration was approaching the<br \/>\nsolution to the nation\u2019s economic challenges with the same will and<br \/>\ncommitment it had demonstrated in the fight against corruption, terrorism<br \/>\nand militancy.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the ERGP had brought together all the sectoral plans for<br \/>\nagriculture and food security, energy and transport infrastructure,<br \/>\nindustrialisation and social investments together in a single document.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, it builds on the Strategic Implementation Plan and sets<br \/>\nout an ambitious roadmap to return the economy to growth and to achieve a<br \/>\nseven per cent growth rate by 2020.<br \/>\nHe, therefore, enjoined state governments to draw aspiration and strategic<br \/>\ndirection from the plan to articulate their economic programmes,<br \/>\nparticularly in the development of the real sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Economic Recovery and Growth Plan brings together all our sectoral<br \/>\nplans for agriculture and food security, energy and transport<br \/>\ninfrastructure, industrialization and social investments together in a<br \/>\nsingle document.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt builds on the Strategic Implementation Plan and sets out an ambitious<br \/>\nroadmap to return the economy to growth; and to achieve a seven per cent<br \/>\ngrowth rate by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Plan I am launching today therefore sets out what we, as government,<br \/>\nare committed to do, to create the enabling environment for business to<br \/>\nthrive. The Plan is a national plan, hence the role of state governments<br \/>\nis critical to its success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI therefore wish to appeal to the state governments to draw inspiration<br \/>\nand strategic direction from the Plan to articulate their economic<br \/>\nprogrammes, particularly in the development of the real sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI call on all Nigerians to work with us to ensure we achieve those<br \/>\nobjectives. The contents of the Plan are already familiar to a broad<br \/>\ncross-section of Nigerians because it was developed in consultation with a<br \/>\nwide group of stakeholders, including the National Assembly, State<br \/>\nGovernments, the business community, labour unions, academia, civil<br \/>\nsociety groups and development partners.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated the determination of his administration to change Nigeria<br \/>\nfrom an import dependent country to a producing nation.<\/p>\n<p>President Buhari, who expressed the commitment of his administration to to<br \/>\nhave a strong Naira and productive economy, stated that Nigeria must<br \/>\nbecome \u201ca nation where we grow what we eat and consume what we produce\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur aim simply put, is to optimise local content and empower local<br \/>\nbusinesses. We seek not just to take the Nigerian economy out of recession<br \/>\nbut to place it on a path of sustained, inclusive and diversified growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are determined to change Nigeria from an import dependent country to a<br \/>\nproducing nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must become a nation where we grow what we eat and consume what we<br \/>\nproduce.We must strive to have a strong Naira and productive economy.<\/p>\n<p>President Buhari commended the Ministry of Budget and National Planning<br \/>\nfor successfully coordinating the plan\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>He also saluted the efforts of the Economic Management Team under the<br \/>\nleadership of the Vice President for overseeing the drafting of the plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased to present this Economic Recovery and Growth Plan for use by<br \/>\nthe Nigerian people, our friends and partners and to guide our development<br \/>\nefforts over the next four years,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>In their separate goodwill messages at the event, the Senate President<br \/>\nBukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara<br \/>\nassured that the National Assembly would support and ensure successful<br \/>\nimplementation of the Plan.<br \/>\nGov. Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara, who spoke on behalf of the 36 governors of<br \/>\nthe federation, thanked President Buhari for his support and assistance to<br \/>\nstate governments.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that such assistance had helped the states in addressing some of<br \/>\ntheir socio-economic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in his remarks, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen.<br \/>\nUdoma Udo Udoma, said the broad objectives of the ERGP were to restore<br \/>\ngrowth, build a globally competitive economy and subsequently build a<br \/>\nself-reliant economy.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, 60 interventions have been identified for execution in<br \/>\nthe next four years to achieve the objectives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur aim is to create a culture where Nigeria continuously seek ways to<br \/>\nadd value to the resources we have been blessed with. In short, our aim is<br \/>\nto change Nigeria, and change for good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo achieve this, the plan articulates up to 60 interventions and<br \/>\ninitiatives, that must be executed and\/or completed within the next four<br \/>\nyears to tackle, and to remove, impediments to growth; to make markets<br \/>\nfunction better; and to leverage the power of the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, this growth is to be archived without compromising the core<br \/>\nvalues of this nation such as discipline, integrity, social justice,<br \/>\nself-reliance and patriotism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, of course, all the initiatives in the Plan will be implemented in<br \/>\nsuch a manner as to continue to strengthen and promote national cohesion<br \/>\nand social inclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Medium-Term ERGP was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC)<br \/>\nduring one of its meetings in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>ERGP has among its broad strategic objectives, restoring sustainable,<br \/>\naccelerated inclusive growth and development; investing in the people; and<br \/>\nbuilding a globally competitive economy.<\/p>\n<p>The Plan was specifically designed to take the country out of the<br \/>\nrecession and, in the long term, continue to grow the economy while<br \/>\nplanning of the 2017 was also based on the ERGP to accelerate speedy<br \/>\nrecovery and development of infrastructure.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday inaugurated the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017-2020 with a call on Nigerians to support its smooth implementation to change Nigeria for good.
