\nAfrican Maritime leaders under the aegis of Association of African
\nMaritime Administration (AAMA) from across the continent to brainstorm on
\nways in which Africa can come together to maximize the economic
\nopportunities of the continent\u2019s large ocean.<\/p>\n
\norganized by Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)
\nin conjunction with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will
\nattract the participation of over 32 African countries, as well as other
\nmaritime countries across the globe with representative from IMO and major
\nshipping Line operators.<\/p>\n
\nstronger economy by boosting non-oil revenue sources is a major part of
\nthe Buhari Government economic policy thrust, hence the Federal
\nGovernment\u2019s huge interest in encouraging greater cooperation among
\nAfrican nation to enable them make the best of the opportunity.<\/p>\n
\nthrough NIMASA in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) council
\nelection coming later in the year, will also address the conference on
\ncertain policy directions of his administration as it concerns the
\nmaritime industry. The President will also be unveiling the new NIMASA,
\nbrand during the three day event.<\/p>\n
\nGeneral of IMO, Mr. Kitack Lim, Chief Executive Officer of South African
\nMaritime and Safety Agency (SAMSA), Sobaitu Tilayi, Malaysian Maritime
\nAuthority and European maritime association among others.<\/p>\n
\nstrategic sessions to garner support for Nigeria\u2019s bid for category \u201cC\u201d
\nseat on the council of IMO.<\/p>\n
\nparticipation will further add value to the economy through participation
\nin critical decision making sessions on global maritime affairs.<\/p>\n
\nAfrican regions with over 200 million metric tonnes of cargo annually and
\nmore than 6000 ocean going vessels calling at her ports yearly, sitting on
\nthe council will further reinforce the country\u2019s leading role in the
\nmaritime industry in Africa.<\/p>\n
\nAdministrations (AAMA) was formed following the signing of the African
\nTransport and Maritime Charter in 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the
\naim of the association is to promote the Development of Africa\u2019s maritime
\nregulatory and maritime environment. The Association which is an umbrella
\nbody of five African Maritime Stakeholders\u2019 groups namely: Association of
\nMaritime Administrations of Africa, Africa\u2019s Ship Registry Forum, African
\nShip Owners Association as well as Africa Shippers\u2019 Council and Seafarers\u2019
\nForum seeks to bring together all players in the African maritime sector
\nto chart a way forward for the industry\u2019s development on the continent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
