{"id":57281,"date":"2017-04-16T21:57:47","date_gmt":"2017-04-16T20:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=57281"},"modified":"2017-04-16T21:57:47","modified_gmt":"2017-04-16T20:57:47","slug":"abuja-airport-runway-ready-monday-faan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/abuja-airport-runway-ready-monday-faan\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja Airport Runway Ready Monday-FAAN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN,<br \/>\nhas said that the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport,<br \/>\nAbuja, would be ready by <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1431379927\"><span class=\"aQJ\">April 17<\/span><\/span>, two days ahead of the deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Saleh Dunoma gave the assurance in a statement signed by the media<br \/>\nconsultant to the Minister of State for Aviation, Ariyo Akinfenwa, on<br \/>\nSunday in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be ready <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1431379929\"><span class=\"aQJ\">April 17<\/span><\/span> but we are leaving the remaining two days for<br \/>\nNigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have written to them and they will come by today (<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1431379930\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Sunday<\/span><\/span>) to do the<br \/>\npreliminary inspection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have to certify the airport that what we have done is in accordance<br \/>\nwith their standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have to certify the airport that what we have done is in accordance<br \/>\nwith their standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d If there is any observation as a result of the inspection, we will now<br \/>\nmake sure we carry out corrections,\u201d the FAAN boss said after inspecting<br \/>\nthe progress of work at the airport.<\/p>\n<p>He maintained that with the work done, the <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1431379931\"><span class=\"aQJ\">April 19<\/span><\/span> deadline for the<br \/>\nreopening of the airport is no longer in doubt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the critical items of work are 100 per cent except may be two items;<br \/>\nwhich of course are the markings and the cleaning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsphalt work is 100 per cent, markings have reached almost 70 per cent<br \/>\nand the airfield lighting system has reached 80 per cent,\u201d Mr. Dunoma<br \/>\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the authority also used the opportunity provided by the<br \/>\nclosure of the airport to address other Airport Excellence in Safety<br \/>\n(APEX) related items.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWe are now levelling all the airfield lightings\u2019 locations, all<br \/>\nthe installations and flash with the ground surface.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn case of any skidding, there will not be concrete projection above the<br \/>\nground surface.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FAAN boss further explained that the newly constructed runway does not<br \/>\nneed calibration because the previous Navigational Aids were not tampered<br \/>\nwith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe runway does not need calibration. All we need to check is to make<br \/>\nsure there is 100 per cent illumination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalibration is done periodically.
