In a statement issued on Thursday by president\u2019s media aide, Garba Shehu,
\nthe presidency lashed out at many negative media reports about the
\npresident\u2019s state of health.<\/p>\n
The statement reads: \u201cPresident Buhari\u2019s absence at the Federal Executive
\nCouncil meeting of Wednesday, April 26, was a last minute decision;
\notherwise, the cabinet and the public might have been alerted in advance.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs eager as he is to be up and about, the President\u2019s doctors have
\nadvised on his taking things slowly, as he fully recovers from the long
\nperiod of treatment in the United Kingdom some weeks ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite his lack of visibility, Nigerians should rest assured that
\nPresident Buhari has not abdicated his role as Commander-in-Chief of
\nNigeria. He receives daily briefings on the activities of government, and
\nconfers regularly with his Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. \u00a0His
\nprivate residence, in which he has been spending the majority of his time
\nrecently, also has a fully equipped office.\u201d<\/p>\n
The president, who some weeks ago returned home from long medical
\ntreatments in London, has missed 2 weekly federal executive meetings now
\nand has not attended state public functions for a while, a situation that
