Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike\u00a0 has\u00a0 reiterated\u00a0 his
\ndeclaration\u00a0 that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris\u00a0 plans to
\nkill or silence him politically because of the political directives that
\nthe police chief has received.<\/p>\n
He further declared that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris
\nhas concluded plans to plant guns and other incriminating\u00a0 items\u00a0 at his
\nAsokoro Extension\u00a0 Residence in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Addressing\u00a0 journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt on
\nSaturday, Governor Wike said that the Inspector-General of Police on
\nFriday approved the raid of his Abuja residence.<\/p>\n
According to the governor, the Police will be in court to get a search
\nwarrant on Tuesday.\u00a0 He said information\u00a0 available\u00a0 to him indicated that
\nbut for the May Day Public Holiday, the Police\u00a0 would have\u00a0 obtained\u00a0 the
\nsearch warrant on Monday.<\/p>\n
He said: “All attempt\u00a0 is being made so that they will\u00a0 go and plant
\neither AK47 or one million dollars in\u00a0 the governor\u2019s\u00a0 house. They can
\neven plant costly wrist watches as a propaganda\u00a0 tool.<\/p>\n
“I said I have\u00a0 to let Nigerians\u00a0 know that this is not the way to go
\nabout in democracy. Rather, this is an attempt to truncate democracy.
\nThat someone\u00a0 differs on issues does not mean you have to go after the
\nperson’s life”.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike\u00a0 said this is the latest in the series of planned propaganda
\nby the police to sow devilish information\u00a0 against\u00a0 him.<\/p>\n
He said because of the unconstitutional\u00a0 nature of the raid, the police
\nrefused to indicate that the house to be raided belongs to the Rivers
\nState Governor.<\/p>\n
“Nigerians\u00a0 should be aware that should\u00a0 they raid my house in Abuja and
\nclaim they found anything, it is incorrect.\u00a0 I have not been going to
\nAbuja, but I will be in Abuja\u00a0 to wait for them to see how they plan to
\nplant guns in my house”, Governor Wike said.<\/p>\n
While maintaining\u00a0 his position\u00a0 that the Inspector-General of Police is
\nafter his life, Governor Wike stated that this recenta plot is aimed at
\nsilencing him because the Rivers State Government claimed the Ikoyi
\nBillions, which was reportedly\u00a0 left there by the former Rivers State
\nGovernor.<\/p>\n
He decried\u00a0 the pattern that has been adopted in the nation\u2019s\u00a0 democracy,
\nsaying that it will negatively\u00a0 affect\u00a0 the growth\u00a0 of\u00a0 democracy.<\/p>\n
“Our democracy\u00a0 cannot survive if we continue with\u00a0 this line of action.
\nIf the Inspector-General of Police\u00a0 wants to play partisan politics, let
\nhim remove\u00a0 his uniform and join us in the arena. He should\u00a0 not continue
\nto wear uniform and do the bidding of politicians\u00a0 like a stooge”, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The governor\u00a0 added: “I want to reiterate, the Inspector-General of Police
\nis after my life”.<\/p>\n
He regretted that security\u00a0 agencies\u00a0 have adopted the unwholesome\u00a0 method
\nof\u00a0 planting guns and cash when the owners of the houses are not at home,
\nsimply for political\u00a0 reasons.\u00a0 He cited the case of Former Benue State
\nGovernor, Gabriel\u00a0 Suswam\u00a0 and Senator Danjuma Goje.<\/p>\n
On the Ikoyi Billions, Governor Wike\u00a0 maintained that Rivers State lawyers
\nare working on the matter, stating that the money belongs to the Rivers
\nState Government.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Says “Against The Run of Play” Distorted<\/p>\n
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described, as riddled with
\ndistorted information, Mr. Segun Adeniyi’s book, Against The Run Of Play.<\/p>\n
Mr. Jonathan’s reaction to the book, publicly presented\u00a0on Friday\u00a0by the
\nEditorial Board Chairman of ThisDay, was made on his Facebook handle.<\/p>\n
The book is an account of his loss of the 2015 presidential election.<\/p>\n
“I have just read\u00a0 Segun Adeniyi’s new book, ‘Against the Run of Play’,
\nwhich has so far enjoyed tremendous reviews in the media. My take on it is
\nthat the book,\u00a0 as presented, contains many distorted claims on the 2015
\npresidential election by many of the respondents,” Mr. Jonathan posted on
\nFacebook.<\/p>\n
He added that there will be more books like that on this subject by active
\nparticipants in the election.<\/p>\n
“I believe that at the right time, the main characters in the election,
\nincluding myself, will come out with a true account of what transpired
