The newly appointed Managing Director of Nigeria Export Processing Zones
\nAuthority (NEPZA), Hon. Emmanuel Jime, will today continue with his
\nfact-finding\/familiarization of tours of Free Trade Zones (FTZs) in the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
Jime, who had earlier toured some FTZs in the Lagos Axis last week, will
\nbe in to Kano to familiarize himself with operations of the Kano Free
\nTrade Zone, located at\u00a0Panisau, behind Mallam Aminu Kano International
\nAirport (MAKIA).<\/p>\n
On Tuesday (tomorrow), the NEPZA MD will return to Lagos to continue his
\ntour of FTZs in Lagos.\u00a0Between Tuesday and Thursday, he will visit the
\nelite premises of the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) as well as those of
\nEco-Atlantic Free Trade Zone (EA-FTZ) otherwise known as Nigeria
\nInternational Commercial City (NICC).<\/p>\n
Last week, the managing director had toured some FTZs in Lagos, including
\nthe ASL Free Trade Zone; NAHCO Free Trade Zone (both located within MMIA);
\nLagos Deep Offshore Logistic Base (LADOL) situated at Takwa Bay;\u00a0Snake
\nIsland Integrated Free Zone (SIIFZ) on Snake Island\u00a0as well as the
\nOgun-Guandong Free Trade Zone located in Igbesa, Ado Odo-Otta Local
\nGovernment in Ogun State.<\/p>\n
Explaining the rationale behind the tours, even on a public holiday,\u00a0 Jime
\nsaid \u201cthe task of industrializing \u00a0Nigeria and diversifying the national
\neconomy is an urgent one, and if foregoing a public holiday can push
\nNigeria in that direction, it is not too much sacrifice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Said he further: \u201cI understand the mandate of NEPZA, and that mandate is
\nabout driving the process of Nigeria\u2019s industrialization. And at this time
\nwhen the president is intent on diversifying the economy beyond non-oil
\nexports, the strategic importance of NEPZA cannot be over-emphasized.
\n\u201cThis explains the rationale behind my familiarization visits to the FTZs
\nto familiarize myself with operations of investors and stakeholders in the
\nFTZs with a view to creating an enabling environment that removes the red
\ntape and guarantees a win-win situation for every party.\u201d
\nJime went on: \u201cI am a believer in the power, viability and functionality
\nof the FTZs, especially where things are done properly. And to hit the
\nground running, we must know where NEPZA is now, where the FTZs are, the
\nsynergy, the successes, the challenges etc. When we get the body of
\ninformation we need, we can now plan towards the big picture.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd as I go round, I am also marketing NEPZA and its mandate to
\nNigerians, sister agencies and even the international community because I
\nhave discovered that not many people know what NEPZA is all about. We
\nintend to change that for good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Accompanying the managing director on the trip is the General Manager
