Former APC acting chairman, Chief Bisi Akande has said President Mohammadu
\nBuhari is surrounded by greedy and unpatriotic elements who are using the
\npresident’s ill health to feed fat.<\/p>\n
Akande who said he fears for anarchy in the country over the ill health of
\nthe President\u00a0 believes Buhari\u2019s zeal and patriotism must have affected
\nhis health, which he said has direct impact on the health of the nation.<\/p>\n
In the statement, the APC chieftain noted that the President is surrounded
\nby \u201cmostly unpatriotic and greedy ruling class\u201d.<\/p>\n
He also flayed the gulf between the Presidency and the National Assembly.<\/p>\n
The former Osun State governor warned those who plan to feast on the
\nPresident\u2019s health status for their selfish political gains, reminding
\nthem of the consequences of such behaviour.<\/p>\n
The statement reads: \u201cThe health of the leader is intricately intertwined
\nwith the health of the nation. It is more so in a delicately fragile Union
\nof Nations called Nigeria. I did not see President Buhari at the wedding
\nof his grand son in Kaduna last Saturday. I was sad and I wept.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen last we met at the wedding of his daughter in Abuja last December, I
\ncomplained to him that I was not happy about his stressful looks. His
\nreply connoted some allusions to circumstances where an honest man
\nfighting corruption is surrounded mostly by unpatriotic greedy ruling
\nclass.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe felt painfully frustrated. He assured me he would soon be going on
\nvacation. I then knew that corruption has effectively been fighting back.
\nAnd I prayed for Nigeria.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was why Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and I rushed to meet him in London in
\nFebruary this year when he was sick and could not return as scheduled from
\nhis vacation. The rest is history but we must appreciate that his poor
\nhealth is already taking a toll on the health of Nigeria as a polity.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are two challenges facing the country today. The first and most
\ncritical is the health of the President which, unfortunately, is a
\ndevelopment beyond his control and for which we did not prepare. The
\nsecond is the disorder and lack of cohesion between the National Assembly
\nand the Presidency.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are two great red flag dangers that have the potential of plunging
\nthe country into unprecedented chaos and of destabilising the gains of
\ndemocracy since 1999.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe greatest danger however is for political interests at the corridor of
\npower attempting to feast on the health of Mr President in a dangerous
\nmanner that may aggravate the problems between the Executive and the
\nNational Assembly without realising if, in the end, it could drag the
\nentire country into avoidable doom.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs delicately fragile the Union of Nations making up Nigeria, so
\ndelicately fragile the democracy and the rule of laws governing the polity
\nof the Union called Nigerian Federation. Certain Nigerian leaders, having
\nbeen blind-folded by corruption, assume the possibility of using money in
\nmanipulating the national security agencies to intimidate, suppress and
\nhold down certain ethnic nationalities or playing one ethnic nationality
\nagainst the other with a view to undermining the constitution and
\nperversely upturning the rule of law.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo avoid the ugly consequences of letting President Buhari\u2019s ailments
\nthrow Nigeria into confusion, I am urging all Nigerians to begin to pray
\nfor his divine healing and perfect recovery.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me warn today that those who wish to harvest political gains out of
\nthe health of the President are mistaken. This is not Nigeria of 1993. We
\nare in a new national and global era of constitutionalism and order. We
\nhope Nigerians have enough patience to learn from history.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy greatest fear, however, is that the country should not be allowed to
