Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has assured Nigerians that the Federal
\nGovernment would remain resolute in tackling the economic challenges
\nfacing the country.<\/p>\n
He made the assertion today, in Kano, while declaring open the 2nd Kano
\nEconomic and Investment Summit taking place at the Coronation Hall,
\nGovernment House, in the state capital.<\/p>\n
Represented by the Minister of Interior, retired Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman
\nDambazau, Professor Osinbajo said the Federal Government was also
\ncommitted in the fight against corruption and insecurity which were
\nimpediments to economic prosperity.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cWe will remain committed on the three focused areas which
\ninclude fighting corruption, insurgency and providing employment to the
\nteeming number of unemployed youths in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Vice President maintained that the Kano Investment summit was in line
\nwith the Federal Government\u2019s effort geared toward economic
\nrevitalization, assuring that such initiatives would be encouraged so as
\nto improve the doing business climate and make life better for the people
\n.<\/p>\n
He expressed the hope that the summit would come up with recommendations
\nthat would promote investment opportunities not only in Kano State but the
\ncountry at large.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Budget and National Planning Minister, Senator Udoma Udo
\nUdoma announced that funds have been provided in the 2017 Federal Budget
\nto provide infrastructure for the revival of the Free Trade Zone in Kano
\nto stimulate industrial activity. He added that funding has equally been
\nprovided for the revival of the Export Expansion Grant by way of tax
\nrelief, as a further incentive to exporters.<\/p>\n
Senator Udoma assured that the Federal government would support Kano state
\ntowards regain the lost glory of its major industrial estates so as to
\ncreate jobs and lift Nigerians out of poverty<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no doubt that Kano leather craftsmen are some of the best in the
\nworld. We must provide the enabling environment for the leather industry
\nto grow and become a mark of quality recognized worldwide\u201d, the Minister
\nadded.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje explained that \u201cthe idea
\nof conceiving this summit is to generate perspectives, strategies and best
\npractices that would showcase viable investment opportunities with a view
\nto attracting local and foreign investors for the sustainable economic
\ntransformation of Kano State and by extension Nigeria at large\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur vision is to have a private sector driven economy and in line with
\nthe Federal and State Governments resolutions to improve Nigeria’s ranking
\non the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n
To fast track development in the state, he stated that his administration
\nhas made substantial and far reaching investments in agriculture and
\ninfrastructure, while effort is ongoing towards addressing the state\u2019s
\npower challenge, which has crippled many industries.<\/p>\n
Dr. Ganduje further remarked his administration has secured a of $1.85
\nmillion loan from China, for the Kano intra city light rail project, which
\nwould go a long way in enhancing commercial activities in the state
\ncapital.<\/p>\n
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa\u2019ad Abubakar III on his part, called on the
\n19 northern governors to invest on the Small Scale Enterprises, to make
\nlife better for people in the region.<\/p>\n
Alhaji Sa\u2019ad Abubakar III said, \u201cour people are not greedy like our elite
\nwho would want to have all, support the common man with small business to
\nenable them have something to fall back on, and when you do this they
