{"id":58191,"date":"2017-06-21T21:04:47","date_gmt":"2017-06-21T20:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=58191"},"modified":"2017-06-21T21:04:47","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T20:04:47","slug":"goje-didnt-benefit-gombes-n5-billion-loan-witness-tells-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/goje-didnt-benefit-gombes-n5-billion-loan-witness-tells-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Goje Didn\u2019t Benefit From Gombe\u2019s N5 billion Loan, Witness tells court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A witness Senator Danjuma Goje\u2019s alleged N25 billion fraud case <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_697532165\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span><br \/>\ntold a Federal High Court that no kobo out of a N5 billion loan facilty<br \/>\nAccess Bank Plc. gave Gombe State entered the former governor\u2019s account.<\/p>\n<p>Goje, who served as governor of Gombe State, has since 2012 been facing an<br \/>\n18- count charge of conspiracy and money laundering alongside Alhaji Aliyu<br \/>\nEl-Nafarty (former Chairman, Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board),<br \/>\nAlhaji Sambo Mohammed Tumu (the ex- governor\u2019s cousin and food supplier to<br \/>\nGovernment House) and a businessman, S.M. Dakoro.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that they<br \/>\nconspired to defraud Gombe State of about N25 billion which the commission<br \/>\nsaid represented proceeds of illegal acts, contrary to and punishable<br \/>\nunder Sections 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition<br \/>\nAct) 2011 as amended.<\/p>\n<p>However, <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_697532166\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span>, the Prosecution witness, Mr Ifesineke Owafil, a<br \/>\nCompliant Officer, Access Bank Plc, told the court presided by Justice<br \/>\nBenjamin Quadiri that the loan facility obtained by Gombe State was<br \/>\ndisbursed to various banks and not to individuals.<\/p>\n<p>EFCC prosecuting Counsel, Mr. Wahab Shittu, who led the bank official in<br \/>\nconfirming documents obtained from Access bank, tendered the bank<br \/>\nstatements through which the loan was obtained and disbursed. Owafil<br \/>\nattested to the documents and were thereafter tendered as exhibits.<br \/>\nUnder cross examination by Goje\u2019s counsel, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), Owafil<br \/>\nconfirmed that the loan facility came in four tranches and were<br \/>\ndistributed to different banks.<\/p>\n<p>Asked, if during the disbursement, any money was transferred in Goje\u2019s or<br \/>\nin the name of any of the accused, the witness responded \u201cNo!\u201d `<br \/>\nExplained the bank official, `No, I didn\u2019t see it; I have told you that<br \/>\nour bank, Access bank Plc, granted the loan facility after the former<br \/>\nadministration met the conditions of the bank.
