{"id":58230,"date":"2017-06-24T06:39:25","date_gmt":"2017-06-24T05:39:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=58230"},"modified":"2017-06-24T06:39:25","modified_gmt":"2017-06-24T05:39:25","slug":"quit-order-ndigbo-south-east-town-unions-take-case-un-ecowas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/quit-order-ndigbo-south-east-town-unions-take-case-un-ecowas\/","title":{"rendered":"QUIT ORDER TO NDIGBO: SOUTH EAST TOWN UNIONS TAKE CASE TO UN, ECOWAS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the three months ultimatum by a coalition of Arewa Youths to<br \/>\nNdigbo to quit the Northern region before <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1901950345\"><span class=\"aQJ\">October 1st<\/span><\/span> or be forced out, a<br \/>\npro Igbo grassroots organization, the Association of South East Town<br \/>\nUnions (ASETU), has called on the United Nations, the African Union and<br \/>\nthe Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other<br \/>\ninternational organizations to intervene on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The group said it is not taking the threat by Arewa youths to annihilate<br \/>\nNdigbo lightly as this was the same in which Igbo people were massacred in<br \/>\nthe Northern region in the past.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by Registered Trustees of the Union, Dr. Innocent<br \/>\nOnwubuya and Chief Emeka Diwe and made available to <a href=\"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/pointblanknews.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1498368082867000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFGXnYhBGn_0UdyPbguKwdLjZELkg\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\">pointblanknews.com<\/a>,<br \/>\nthe group said that such declaration coming Northern youths portends great<br \/>\ndanger to national security and is capable of worsening the badly shaken<br \/>\nsecurity situation\u00a0 in the country if not handled with maturity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe African Union, the United Nations, the Economic Community of West<br \/>\nAfrican States and other international bodies that have at all times been<br \/>\non the side of justice and have shown determination to protect the<br \/>\ndefenseless are put on notice that the threats of annihilation of Ndigbo<br \/>\nare neither provoked\u00a0 nor a retaliation of any offence committed by<br \/>\nNdigbo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe flimsy pretext is that the Igbo nation observed a day of mourning in<br \/>\nremembrance of over 3 million Igbo people massacred during the civil war.<br \/>\nThis is the only reason for which the lives and properties of Ndigbo<br \/>\nliving in Northern Nigeria are today being threatened again. \u00a0Can a people<br \/>\nbe threatened with destruction because of their way of life which is not<br \/>\nharmful to any of the ethnic formations in Nigeria?
