Mudashiru Hussain, the ruling All Progressives Congress candidate may have
\nlost the Osun West Senatorial bye-election to Ademola Adeleke, candidate
\nof the Peoples Democratic Party, according to actual results declared at
\nvarious collation centres in the state.<\/p>\n
Unofficial results show that Mr. Adeleke, brother of the former holder of
\nthe seat, Isiaka Adeleke, swept the two local councils in his\u00a0home town
\nof\u00a0Ede. He also won Egbedore and Ola Oluwa local councils.<\/p>\n
Projections in other\u00a0local councils also appear to show that he is
\ncoasting home to victory, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.<\/p>\n

\nHis victory, if confirmed by the Independent National Electoral
\nCommission, will be a big blow to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, less than two
\nyears to the end of his tenure, amid permutations for the 2018
\ngovernorship election.
\nAn APC stalwart told NAN it may be a disastrous\u00a0night for the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cThough collation is on, projections are not favourable for our candidate,
\neven as we await results\u00a0from\u00a0some units,\u201d the stalwart close to Governor
\nAregbesola said.<\/p>\n
Mr. Adeleke had wanted to\u00a0run on the APC platform to replace his brother,
\na member of the APC, who died on\u00a0April 23. He was initially cleared for
\nthe election by the party and his opponent, Mudashir Hussain, disqualified
\nbecause of the allegation that he\u00a0failed to resign his commissionership
\nposition.<\/p>\n
But the National Working Committee of the party later overturned Mr.
\nHussain\u2019s disqualification and cleared him to contest in the primary
\nelection.<\/p>\n
Mr. Adeleke, believing he would be outsmarted in the scheduled primary,
\ndefected to the Peoples Democratic Party led by Ali Modu Sheriff, \u00a0to run
\nfor the seat.<\/p>\n
In the run-up to the election today, it was clear sentiments would rule
\nthe ballots, especially as the public felt an Adeleke scion should be
\ncompensated for the sudden death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who was
\nplanning to run for the governorship election next year.<\/p>\n
And then, there were what seemed to be politically instigated protests
\nagainst the government by pensioners and some workers, accusing the
\nAregbesola government of owing them arrears of payments.<\/p>\n
Signs of a possible failed bid by the APC candidate came in the result for
\nhis polling Unit 1, Ward 3 in Ejigbo local government.<\/p>\n
He got 152 votes, Adeleke of PDP got 148 votes, a difference of just
\nfour\u00a0votes.
\nBabangida advices APDA to promote peace, unity<\/p>\n
Former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida has advised the national
\nleadership of the newly registered political party, Advanced Peoples
\nDemocratic Alliance(APDA) to use the party\u2019s platform \u00a0to preach unity and
\npeace in the country.<\/p>\n
Babangida gave the advice when he received APDA delegation, led by its
\nNational Chairman, Mallam Mohhammed Shitu, who paid courtesy visit on
\nSaturday at his Minna residence.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by Mr Oluwatosin Johnson, Special Adviser to Shitu, the
\nformer president said that message of peace was important at the trying
\nmoment of the country.<\/p>\n
“Endeavour to use the party platform to preach peace and unity in
\nNigeria. The country is in trying moment and what we need is message of
\npeace.<\/p>\n
“You must promote the peace and unity of the country,\u2019\u2019 Babangida said.<\/p>\n
He equally congratulated the newly registered party with a promise to be
\navailable for advice and guidance where necessary.<\/p>\n
It quoted Shitu speaking early that the purpose of their visit to Mina was
\nto brief the former head of state about the newly registered political
\nparty and its manifestos.<\/p>\n
Shitu said parts of APDA \u00a0manifestos cardinal point was to restructure
\nNigeria when it gets to power in 2019 as well give the country\u2019s youth a
\nsense of belonging in the Nigeria project.<\/p>\n
It noted that the APDA chairman used the opportunity to present the
