Acting President Yemi Osinbajo,\u00a0on Wednesday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0administered the oath of
\noffice to Suleiman Hassan and Professor Stephen Ocheni, the two Ministers
\nwho had long been cleared by the Senate.<\/p>\n

The swearing-in ceremony ended the controversy on whether or not Acting
\nPresident Osinbajo has President Mohammadu Buhari’s approval to discharge
\nthe duty of administering the oath of office to the Ministers.<\/p>\n

Only yesterday, Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to President
\nMohammadu Buhari, Mallam Garba Shehu, dismissed a tweet by the spokesman
\nto the Acting President, Mr. Laolu Akande, announcing the swearing-in
\nceremony of the two ministers today.<\/p>\n

Akande had in his tweet said “AgP Osinbajo would be swearing in the two
\nnew ministers already confirmed by the Senate\u00a0tomorrow<\/span><\/span>\u00a0@the start of the
\nFederal Exco meeting.”<\/p>\n

But Garba Shehu dismissed the tweet from Akande as “false” in a tweet in
\nresponse to a Premium Times Story reporting the swearing in ceremony.<\/p>\n

However, after swearing in the two Ministers, Osinbajo charged them to be
\ncommitted to their new task of supporting the government in achieving it\u2019s
\nset goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can only say going by your antecedence as contained in your resume read
\nout, it is evident that you are deserving of positions held in the Federal
\nRepublic of Nigeria and that you are capable of rendering all the task
\nthat will be given to you. The only reward is more hard work and I wish
\nyou the best as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The two new minister confirmed by the Senate in May in accordance with
\nsection 14 sub-section 123 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of
\nNigeria, were sworn in shortly before the commencement of he Federal
\nExecutive Council (FEC) meeting,\u00a0on Wednesday<\/span><\/span>, \u00a0at the Council Chambers,
\nPresidential Villa, Abuja.<\/p>\n

The two new ministers who hail from Kogi and Gombe States respectively
\nreplaced the late James Ocholi who died in an auto accident in 2016 and
\nAmina Mohammed, who resigned to take up the position of Deputy Secretary
\nGeneral of the United Nations (UN), in February, 2017.<\/p>\n

However, shortly before the Federal Executive Council (FEC), at the
\nPreaidential Villa, Abuja, Osinbajo said the FEC is one that is committed
\nto the very far reaching and reform programme of the President Muhammadu
\nBuhari\u2019s government.<\/p>\n

According to Osinbajo\u00a0\u201cthat reform programme is contained in our Economic
\nRecovery and Growth Plan. We have focus our attention on key areas of that
\neconomic recovery plan and we believe these key areas are things that need
\nto be done to make a difference in the Nigerian economy and in the lives
\nof Nigerians\u201d.<\/p>\n

He listed the key areas of the Buhari government as\u00a0security and the
\nanti-corruption fight\u201c stressing that the government \u201cexpect that members
\nof the Federal Executive Council will focus on these key areas as well. We
\nhave of course made tremendous progress in security, we have issues and
\nchallenges here and there, but they are, compared to where we are coming
\nfrom very minor indeed and we are tackling them on a day by day basis\u201d.<\/p>\n

On the anti-corruption fight, Osinbajo said \u201cwe are focused. We believe
\nthat the primary thing is for those of us who have the privilege of
\nserving to ensure that by our own point and actions we support the anti
\ncorruption fight and also that our conducts will be exemplary so that we
\nwill show by practice not just by words that we are determined to ensure
\nthat this country is run by a good government. And where there is honesty
