The secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State
\nCouncil was attacked by political thugs on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The thugs injured journalists, vandalised properties and disrupted a press
\nbriefing by some APC chieftains in the state.<\/p>\n
The thugs overpowered policemen at the entrance to the NUJ secretariat
\nwhere Senators Shehu Sani and Suleiman Hunkuyi kicked against the result
\nof the party\u2019s delegate election.<\/p>\n
The thugs wielding dangerous weapons macheted a cameraman with Liberty
\nTelevision, Lawal Muhammed, damaged several cameras and injured two other
\nreporters.<\/p>\n
The thugs also broke doors, windows and damaged chairs and tables at the
\nsecretariat.<\/p>\n
The chietains of the All Progressives Congress chased away by the thugs
\nincluded House of Representatives members Muhamamed Usman and Musa Soba,
\nAlhaji Tijjani Ramalan, Alhaji Yaro Makama, Amb. Sule Buba and a former
\nlegislator Alhaji Isa Ashiru.<\/p>\n
Trouble started when the Gabassawa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP
\nSadiq Abdullahi allegedly allowed the thugs entrance into the venue.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the State Police Commissioner, Mr Agyole Abeh who visited the
\nNUJ secretariat, pledged that the police will apprehend the perpetrators.<\/p>\n
According to him, the DPO had briefed him on the incident, claiming that
\nthe thugs had identified themselves as journalists before they were
\nallowed into the premises.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner said that investigation would commence immediately and
\nthose found wanting would be prosecuted.<\/p>\n
Earlier, during the press conference, the APC chieftains said they were
\nprotesting what they termed as at \u2018selection \u2018 of APC delegates in total
\ndisregard of the party\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n
Sen. Hunkuyi who spoke on behalf of the APC leaders said all the
\nguidelines for the delegates election were breached.<\/p>\n
He said that the group had written to the national secretariat of the APC
\nasking it to set aside the purported delegates election and announce new
\ndate for the exercise.<\/p>\n
