The Sultan of Sokoto, Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, commended the
\nTony Elumelu Foundation and its Founder, Tony O. Elumelu for their
\ncontribution to entrepreneurship and creation of jobs for young people in
\nthe North.<\/p>\n
The Sultan made this commendation during a courtesy visit paid by Tony
\nElumelu, Chairman of UBA Group and Founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation,
\nshortly before the National Dialogue Series at the Usman Danfodiyo
\nUniversity, Sokoto, where Elumelu gave a speech to university students and
\ncivic leaders. The Sultan of Sokoto stated that Elumelu\u2019s intervention,
\nthrough his Foundation, and entrepreneurship advocacy has created jobs and
\nhelped in creating security in the North by keeping idle youths off the
\nstreets.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need more Tony Elumelus. We need more Aliko Dangotes,\u201d he said. \u201cWe
\ncontinue to appreciate what you are doing for our youth because when you
\ntake these children off the streets, you provide the means for them to
\nlive a simple life. In that regard, we have a bit of security\u201d.<\/p>\n
Tagged \u201cEntrepreneurship: An Antidote to Nigerian Youth Unemployment\u201d, the
\nensuing event, which was held at the University Campus of the Usman
\nDanfodiyo University, Sokoto, was hosted by its Vice Chancellor, Professor
\nAbdullahi Abdu Zuru, who commended Elumelu on his dedication to
\nencouraging entrepreneurship among the youth.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been following your activities. Of recent the activity that
\ncaught our eyes is the Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme
\nwhere you set aside $100million for the next 10 years to ensure that
\nAfrican youth, not only Nigerians but African youth develop Africa,” he
\nsaid<\/p>\n
In reply, Elumelu appreciated the university for the opportunity to share
\nhis message of Africapitalism with the students. He charged the students
\nto adopt the philosophy, noting that it would help them understand their
\nplace in transforming Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo attain long term success, I want you to adopt Africapitalism as a
\nguiding philosophy. I want you to develop a keen sense of awareness that
\nAfrica is in dire need of leaders both in the private and public sectors
\nand your ideas can indeed transform the continent,\u201d he said to the
\nstudents.<\/p>\n
He further challenged the students to take on entrepreneurship as a means
\nof eradicating poverty and creating more jobs in the society.
\n\u201cOnly entrepreneurs can create the millions of jobs we need to power our
\neconomy out of poverty,\u201d Elumelu said.<\/p>\n
He charged them to assume responsibility for developing the African
\ncontinent, saying: \u201cNobody but us will develop Africa. Africa\u2019s destiny
