In a renewed effort to further propel the Buhari administration New Vision
\nfor the overall development of the Niger Delta, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum,
\nPANDEF, will now be joining the Federal Government\u2019s Inter-Ministerial
\nGroup tasked with the implementation of the vision.<\/p>\n
Speaking earlier today in Abuja at the meeting of the Federal Government
\nwith Niger Delta leaders under the aegis of PANDEF, Acting President Yemi
\nOsinbajo, SAN, while welcoming PANDEF\u2019s offer to fully join the
\ninter-ministerial group, reiterated the full commitment of the Federal
\nGovernment to realise a new and prosperous Niger Delta developed through
\nforthright partnerships between Federal Government, State Governments,
\nprivate sector and local communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are fully committed and thankful for your contributions and feedback.
\nWe are working on this day by day. From the beginning, we took the
\n16-point demand very seriously and we also developed our own plan mostly
\nbased on those demands.<\/p>\n
\u201cPersonally, I believe the issues of the Niger Delta must be addressed.
\nWhen I undertook the visit to the Niger Delta region, my sole intention
\nfor participating in this process is that we need forthrightness and a
\nhands-on approach. There is no week that has passed that I\u2018ve not held one
\nmeeting or the other on the Niger Delta issue. I\u2019ve spent quality time
\nlooking at how we can implement this (new vision),\u201d Prof. Osinbajo said.<\/p>\n
The Acting President further said the Federal Government will implement
\nthe new vision in a way that is fair to all parties. \u201cIt can\u2019t be done
\novernight. We are also looking at the integrity of the process so we can
\nmeet our targets. We are not out of line. Everything is on course the way
\nwe set it out. We have got to do it right,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The inter-ministerial group, consisting of all relevant ministries,
\ndepartments and agencies, MDAs of the FG, with the involvement of relevant
\nState governments led by the Acting President, meets regularly to drive
\nthe different initiatives and ensure effective and ongoing implementation
\nof the FG Niger Delta new vision.<\/p>\n
Prof. Osinbajo further stated that the Federal Government was committed to
\nthe Amnesty Programme, the establishment of the Maritime University, the
\nclean-up of Ogoni and the general development of the Niger Delta region.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of PANDEF, Chief Edwin Clark thanked the Federal
\nGovernment for being forthright and showing commitment to improving the
\nfortunes of the region, noting that the Acting President\u2019s visit to the
\nNiger Delta has contributed to the peace in the region.<\/p>\n
Clark said, \u201cThe meeting was excellent. We met with Mr. Acting President.
\nHe was very forthright, truthful. We were very satisfied. There is no
\nultimatum. We agreed on many things and we came in with our own address,
\npresented it; the ministers presented their cases. Mr. Acting President
\nrounded it off and we saw in him the genuineness, truthfulness and
\nforthrightness. He is a gentleman and we support him. We are satisfied. We
\ndid not use the word \u2018ultimatum\u2019. We only said we would withdraw. But we
