{"id":59340,"date":"2017-08-30T13:36:15","date_gmt":"2017-08-30T12:36:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=59340"},"modified":"2017-08-30T13:36:15","modified_gmt":"2017-08-30T12:36:15","slug":"saraki-v-sahara-reporters-court-adjourns-till-sept-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/saraki-v-sahara-reporters-court-adjourns-till-sept-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Saraki v Sahara Reporters: Court adjourns till\u00a0Sept 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">A Kwara State High court\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_9046714\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Wednesday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0adjourned till\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_9046715\"><span class=\"aQJ\">September 14<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in a suit between Senate President Bukola Saraki and \u00a0Online newspaper, Sahara Reporters<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It is recalled that thestate high court had awarded N4billion against the online medium for accusing the Senate president of misdeeds that were not substantial<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The tabloid publisher had thus approached the court asking that the judgement be set aside, saying he was not served.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0Kwara youths thronged the court complex, Ilorin in solidarity with the Senate President, Bukola Sarahi \u00a0in a suit between Online newspaper, Sahara Reporters and Saraki .<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Both the \u00a0vicinity and the high court complex, were filled with supporters of the Senate president, mostly youths and women<\/div>\n<p>Sarakis loyalists had arrived the high court complex as early as\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_9046716\"><span class=\"aQJ\">7.30 am<\/span><\/span>\u00a0waiting for two hours before the commencement of the court proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that some certain associates of Sowore had made spirited attempts to mobilize some youths to the court to solidarise with the online media publisher.<\/p>\n<p>Saraki\u2019s supporters, who conducted themselves in orderly manner, carried placards of various inscriptions, saying that, Saraki is their leader and should not be blackmailed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with journalists at the court, the lead counsel to the Senate president, Paul Erokoro (SAN), said that the process filed by counsel to Sahara reporters was not matured for his response and thus the judge ruled that they were within their time within which to file their response while the matter was adjourned till\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_9046717\"><span class=\"aQJ\">September 14, 2017<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that the particular tabloid posed a danger to the nation\u2019s democracy and administration of justice and integrity of court and thus should be checked for its constant needless attack against people and institutions.<\/p>\n<p>He said that media\u2019s constitutional functions and power come with responsibility and respect, calling for peer review mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the Sahara reporters lead counsel, Stanley Ihmaruo, said that they were not served with originating process among other records of proceedings before the judgement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want the court to set aside the entire proceedings. We filed other papers restraining the other party in the proceedings.
