Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has condemned President
\nMuhammadu Buhari\u2019s support for the Kaduna State Government\u2019s planned
\nsack of about 22,000 teachers that purportedly failed competency test
\nconducted by the State Government.<\/p>\n
The governor said; \u201cBy openly supporting the sack of about 22,000
\nteachers in Kaduna State, President Buhari has approved loss of jobs
\nas the official policy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead
\nof creation of three million jobs per year that the party promised
\nNigerians.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday and signed by his
\nSpecial Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere
\nOlayinka, Governor Fayose reiterated his total commitment to the
\nwelfare of workers in Ekiti State, saying; \u201cNot minding the State\u2019s
\ninability to pay salary as at when due, owing to paucity of fund, I
\nwill not sack any worker under any guise.\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor said it was sad that President Buhari, whose government
\npromised to create jobs for Nigerians, is supporting throwing of about
\n22,000 teachers to the labour market after causing loss of millions of
\njobs in the private sector and collapse of several companies.<\/p>\n
He said the President\u2019s position was a pointer that labour leaders in
\nthe country should prepare for mass sack of workers by the APC
\ngovernments both at federal and State levels.<\/p>\n
\u201cHere in Ekiti State, the immediate past APC government used
\ncompetency test to demote many secondary school principals, vice
\nprincipals and primary school head teachers, leading to sudden death
\nof many of them. The government then tried to force the competency
\ntest on the teachers but they resisted.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, students in Ekiti State are still being taught by the same
\nteachers that the APC government said were not competent and the
\nstudents were the ones whose performance gave the State first position
\nin NECO in 2016 and 2017. The State also moved from 26 percent
\nperformance in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination
\nin 2014 to 36.5 percent in 2015, 42 percent in 2016 and 74.86 percent
\nin 2017.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, instead of hiding under competency test to sack teachers,
\nthe APC government both at States and federal government levels should
\ncome to Ekiti State and learn how we were able to get optimum
\nperformance from the same set of teachers the immediate past APC
\ngovernment in the State labeled incompetent and harassed with
\ncompetency test.<\/p>\n
While declaring that it was not the right of any state government to
\nset exams for teachers, Governor Fayose said; \u201cThe Teachers
\nRegistration Council of Nigeria was set up for the purpose of
