Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party,
\nChief Tony Anenih, yesterday expressed concern over indications that fuel
\nscarcity might hit motorists and other Nigerians hard in the period
\nleading to Christmas.<\/p>\n
But Anenih in a statement in Abuja expressed confidence that President
\nMuhammadu Buhari has the capacity to stop the recurrent fuel crisis, which
\nalways rears its ugly head during Christmas period and other major
\nfestivities.<\/p>\n
He said: “Reports have indicated that there are vehicles queuing at fuel
\nstations across the country for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), due to
\nscarcity of the product.<\/p>\n
“This has become characteristic, especially in December when Christmas
\ntime beckons. Successive governments have had their fair share of the
\nproblem.\u00a0 I believe that something must be wrong somewhere.”<\/p>\n
He stated that Nigerians desire hitch-free Christmas and New Year
\ncelebrations, pointing out that fuel scarcity would make that impossible.<\/p>\n
“In the recent past months, fuel had been readily available at filling
\nstations nationwide and we thought the advent of fuel scarcity at
\nChristmas had gone for good,” he said.<\/p>\n
According to Anenih, “Whatever is the problem, I call on the federal
\ngovernment under His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, to urgently
\naddress it in the interest of the masses of the country who already have
\nenough challenges to contend with.<\/p>\n
“I have no doubt that President Buhari, as former Federal Commissioner of
\nPetroleum and current Minister of Petroleum, has the capacity to stop the
\nrecurrent fuel crisis.<\/p>\n
“Therefore, whatever needs to be done to restore the product supply should
\nbe done as quickly as possible and appropriate measures put in place to
\nforestall future recurrence.<\/p>\n
“This is the expectation of all well-meaning Nigerians and,\u00a0 in my view,
\nit is not too much to ask from our dear President, who has demonstrated
