Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike wason Friday<\/span><\/span>night enthroned as
\nthe Silverbird Man of the Year 2017, after majority of Nigerians
\noverwhelmingly voted for him following his nomination by the management of
\nSilverbird Group.<\/p>\n

Presenting the Silverbird Man of the Year 2017 award to the Rivers State
\nGovernor at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Former Vice
\nPresident Atiku Abubakar described Governor Wike as a worthy leader who
\nis laying the right foundation for the rapid development of the state.<\/p>\n

He said: “I have witnessed virtually all administrations in Rivers State.
\nI have not seen an administration that has done so much, within a short
\ntime as that of Governor Wike.<\/p>\n

“Believe me , Governor Wike is laying the foundation for the prosperity
\nof Rivers State and Nigeria. This is a remarkable achievement that I find
\ndifficult to locate in any part of the country. I congratulate the people
\nof Rivers State for having you as a governor “.<\/p>\n

The Former Vice President commended Governor Wike for his efforts at
\nconnecting Opobo-Nkoro to the mainland, saying he was elated when the
\nRivers State Governor showed him the road in the state’s projects
\ncompendium.<\/p>\n

Chairman of Silverbird Group, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce said the Rivers
\nState Governor emerged the Silverbird Man of the Year on the strength of
\nvotes by the people.<\/p>\n

“This award was voted by the people of Nigeria. In other words, it was
\nearned. I am honoured to know a man called Governor Wike. He is a terrific
\ngovernor, Mr Projects”, he said.<\/p>\n

Senator Murray-Bruce said Governor Wike focuses on the development of the
\nstate through delivery of projects and programmes.<\/p>\n

Responding, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike assured Rivers
\npeople that he remains committed to the development of the state.<\/p>\n

He said: “My commitment is and has been to promote, defend and advance the
\nbest interest of our people and contribute to the progress of our state
\nand nation.<\/p>\n

“Today, I am very honoured to receive this award because it represents the
\nvery ideals that sustains my interest in public service”.<\/p>\n

He said that his administration was inaugurated during a period of
\nfinancial crisis, but he chose to be different, instead of giving all
\nmanner of excuses like the APC Federal Government .<\/p>\n

“We refused to be daunted by the rot we inherited . Today, the testimonies
\nare everywhere that Rivers State where we is working very well for our
\npeople “, he said.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike dedicated the award to the people of Rivers State for their
\nsupport and prayers. He also dedicated the award to his wife, Justice
\nEberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike.<\/p>\n

The governor said that the situation in Nigeria is precarious. He said
\nthat Nigerians have no choice but to work together in the interest of the
\nnation.<\/p>\n

The award also witnessed several other categories of the award .<\/p>\n
