The Opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said the ruling All
\nprogressive Congress, APC, is a sinking ship that has reached its wits
\nend.<\/p>\n
The PDP was reacting to a statement credited to Information Minister, Mr.
\nLai Mohammed where he called for the withdrawal of the certificate of
\nregistration of the opposition party.<\/p>\n
Spokesman of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondinyan said the call to deregister
\nthe PDP exposes the APC as a ruling party bent on strangulating the main
\nopposition party.<\/p>\n
The Statement reads:<\/p>\n
Our attention has been drawn to a press statement by the Minister of
\nInformation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, wherein he demanded that the
\ncertificate of registration issued to the PDP by the Independent
\nNational Electoral Commission (INEC) should be withdrawn because the PDP
\nlost in an election and according to him, does not know how to function
\nas an opposition party.<\/p>\n
We want to alert all Nigerians of a clandestine plot by the All
\nProgressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government to strangulate the
\nmain opposition party and plot the way for the self-succession plan of
\ntheir candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n
Our party has been following all the schemes and shenanigans of the APC
\nas 2019 general elections draw nearer.<\/p>\n
The main plank of the plot is to ensure that President Buhari runs as a
\nsole candidate in 2019. To achieve this grand plan, they must work to
\nexterminate all known and perceived political opposition platforms in
\nour country.<\/p>\n
Is it not strange that a party who, in its almost five years of
\nexistence, cannot constitute a Board of Trustees (BoT) in line with the
\nprovisions of its own constitution will be asking INEC to withdraw the
\ncertificate of a party whose all organs are intact and effectively
\nfunctioning?<\/p>\n
Is it not also laughable that a party, who cannot hold even a
\nnon-elective convention, will be calling for the withdrawal of PDPs
\ncertificate?<\/p>\n
It is imperative to tell Alhaji Lai Mohammed and his cohorts in the APC
\nthat any masquerade that dances first will eventually have to watch the
\ndance steps of others from the stand.<\/p>\n
It is clear now that the APC and its Federal Government have come to
\ntheir wits end. All they need to do now is to sit by and watch Nigerians
\ncollectively return the PDP to powers and by so doing restore the nation
\nto the path of unity, national cohesion and economic prosperity come
\n2019.<\/p>\n
