Urges International Community to Help Nigeria<\/div>\n
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the call by the former minister<\/div>\n
of defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, that Nigerians should defend<\/div>\n
themselves against killers, is yet another testimony of the tragic<\/div>\n
situation which the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress<\/div>\n
(APC) have dragged our nation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The party said Gen Danjuma’s statement justifies its stand that the<\/div>\n
Buhari Presidency and the dysfunctional All Progressives Congress (APC)<\/div>\n
must be held responsible for our agonizing state, adding that, Nigerians<\/div>\n
are now daily paying the supreme price because of the failures of a<\/div>\n
grossly incompetent leadership and a deceitful ruling party.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The PDP, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola<\/div>\n
Ologbondiyan, on Sunday, said the pronouncement, coming from an army<\/div>\n
general, a former chief of army staff and former defence minister of<\/div>\n
Gen. Danjumas status, is weighty and directly reflects the ugly<\/div>\n
situation in the country under the APC.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It said the fact that citizens and communities across the country are<\/div>\n
now resorting to self-defence is also a clear demonstration that<\/div>\n
Nigerians, across board, have completely lost confidence in President<\/div>\n
Buhari and the APC.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It is instructive to recall that former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and<\/div>\n
Ibrahim Babangida, both former military leaders, army generals and<\/div>\n
patriots, had earlier raised the issue of unabating bloodletting and<\/div>\n
pogrom in our country under the APC and the Buhari Presidency.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Painfully, the APC-controlled Federal Government has not only failed in<\/div>\n
finding solution but is also contending with allegations of conspiracy<\/div>\n
and acts that are believed to have emboldened attacks against innocent<\/div>\n
Nigerians.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Nigerians are no longer feeling secured in their land. Our country has,<\/div>\n
in close to three years, assumed a status of killing field where<\/div>\n
defenceless citizens are despoiled, raped and mowed by insurgents and<\/div>\n
marauders in Benue, Taraba, Yobe, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, Borno,<\/div>\n
Plateau, Nasarawa, Rivers, Enugu, Kogi among other states.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Unfortunately, the Buhari-led APC federal government remains aloof and<\/div>\n
has failed to take decisive steps that will apprehend the masterminds of<\/div>\n
the carnage.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Instead, what we are witnessing are complete government insensitivity,<\/div>\n
allegations of complicity and compromise of security around soft targets<\/div>\n
and dishing out of false information, as was the case in Benue, Yobe,<\/div>\n
Taraba and other states where Nigerians have come under heavy attacks<\/div>\n
from marauders.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
More intriguing is that the Presidency and the APC Federal Government<\/div>\n
have refused to come out clear on their roles in the alleged<\/div>\n
compromising of security in troubled areas, particularly the reported<\/div>\n
withdrawal of troops from Dapchi prior to the abduction of the<\/div>\n
schoolgirls.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Nigerians are also yet to see the action taken by President Buhari<\/div>\n
against the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, for flouting<\/div>\n
the presidential orders that he should relocate to troubled Benue in the<\/div>\n
heat of attacks on the state.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Similarly, the loud silence of the Federal Government on the alleged<\/div>\n
importation of military equipment by APC interests in Kogi State<\/div>\n
remains ominous.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Furthermore, the fact that we now have a situation where government<\/div>\n
confesses to back-channel negotiations with insurgents; hasty offering<\/div>\n
of amnesty to marauders and killers, allegations of round-tripping in<\/div>\n
billions of naira on alleged shady ransom payments and swap deals with<\/div>\n
insurgents also leaves much to be desired under the current<\/div>\n
circumstances.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
While we restate our call for a UN monitored independent inquest on the<\/div>\n
security situation in our country, we stand with Nigerians in our moment<\/div>\n
of national despair even as we work collectively on our repositioned PDP<\/div>\n
to end the misrule of the APC and restore our nation to the path of<\/div>\n
peace, national cohesion and economic prosperity.<\/div>\n
