The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr kayode Fayemi has declared<\/p>\n
interest in contesting the july 14, governorship election in the Ekiti<\/p>\n
State.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Dr Fayemi who was Governor of Ekiti State between 2010 and 2014, told<\/p>\n
journalists in an interview at his \u00a0Ishan Ekiti country home on Saturday<\/p>\n
that he would follow due process, starting a formal notification of his<\/p>\n
intention to the leadership of the APC and \u00a0the state secretariat of the<\/p>\n
party.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This he said would be followed by a public declaration rally at a date to<\/p>\n
be announced.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I will run for the governorship of our state. As a leader of the<\/p>\n
party, I am going to follow the due process as laid down by our party and<\/p>\n
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This include formal<\/p>\n
notification of the leadership of the party, presentation of letter of<\/p>\n
intent at the state secretariat and a public declaration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Fayemi said he was aware of various speculations about whether he would<\/p>\n
run for the governorship or not. He, however said that, with the last week<\/p>\n
release of guidelines and time table for the July election, the right time<\/p>\n
for him to make a formal declaration and join the race has come.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He said the state government\u2019s controversial White Paper could not stop<\/p>\n
him from contesting the governorship election, as designed by the PDP<\/p>\n
government.<\/p>\n

INEC has scheduled April 15th for the commencement of electioneering<\/p>\n
process for the July election.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Minister had addressed a mammoth crowd of party leaders from<\/p>\n
all the 177 wards of the state at the APC leaders meeting held in Ishan<\/p>\n
Ekiti, where he urged them to be united in the battle to unseat the<\/p>\n
incumbent PDP-led government.<\/p>\n

State Chairman of the party, High Chief Jide Awe, deputy chairman, Chief<\/p>\n
(Mrs) Kemi Olaleye; State Secretary, Barrister Paul Omotosho led other<\/p>\n
state, local government and ward \u00a0executives as well as elders of the<\/p>\n
party to the quarterly meeting.<\/p>\n

Saying that the huge number of aspirants jostling for the APC ticket was a<\/p>\n
good development for the party, Dr Fayemi urged all aspirants and their<\/p>\n
supporters to pursue their ambitions in a very decent manner, emphasising<\/p>\n
their credentials and plans to lift the state from its present state.<\/p>\n

He said it was obvious the PDP-led government in Ekiti was bereft of ideas<\/p>\n
and does not have anything good to offer the citizens of the state,<\/p>\n
stressing that the July 14 election would be an opportunity to halt the<\/p>\n
brigandage and maladministration going on in the state.<\/p>\n

Apparently referring to his formal presentation of letter of intent,<\/p>\n
Fayemi had told the cheering crowd of his plan in the coming weeks to<\/p>\n
visit the party secretariat to commence the process. \u00a0\u201cI will come to the<\/p>\n
party secretariat in Ado-Ekiti and do the needful.<\/p>\n

He said while the the new APC government in the state would restore all<\/p>\n
the local Council Development areas (LCDAs) created by the his<\/p>\n
administration, and which was cancelled by the PDP government.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cOur people clamoured for the creation of these LCDAs and they were<\/p>\n
created for them. But the PDP cancelled all of them. I can assure you all,<\/p>\n
the new APC government would restore your LCDAs because that is what the<\/p>\n
people want.<\/p>\n
