{"id":61680,"date":"2018-04-13T18:31:18","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T17:31:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=61680"},"modified":"2018-04-13T18:31:18","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T17:31:18","slug":"patience-jonathan-defeats-efcc-as-court-says-graft-agency-cant-seize-her-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/patience-jonathan-defeats-efcc-as-court-says-graft-agency-cant-seize-her-money\/","title":{"rendered":"Patience Jonathan Defeats EFCC As court Says Graft Agency Can\u2019t Seize Her Money"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday turned down an application by<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission seeking to seize the funds in<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">15 bank accounts linked to former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The funds, which the anti-graft agency sought to confiscate, included a<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">total of $8,435,788.84 and over N7.35bn.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Justice Mojisola Olatoregun in his verdict trashed the ex parte<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">application filed by the EFCC for the seizure of the funds, saying the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">funds were already subject of litigation before two other judges.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Recall that Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, then domestic aide to ex-President<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Goodluck Jonathan, had told the court that the $15.5m siezed from the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">former First Lady was her legitimate money.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Dudafa, who appeared as Patience\u2019s first witness had also claimed that the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">$15.5m seized from Patience by the EFCC was not proceeds of fraud but,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u201cconsisted of her personal inheritance and money which she held in trust<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">for her siblings, as well as gifts from friends and well-wishers over the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">years.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Dudafa said the multi-million dollars and other currencies belonging to<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Mrs Jonathan were cash gifts, inheritance and funds she holds in trust for<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">others.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday turned down an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission seeking to seize the funds in 15 bank accounts linked to&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":53164,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-61680","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
