It beats myimagination the way our minds have been twisted to think in<\/div>\n
this country. Howcome Nigerians have become a people of warped minds and<\/div>\n
so naive that it is nowvery difficult if not impossible to actually think<\/div>\n
straight and deeply too?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Whether or notwe like the senators for their selfish deportment in<\/div>\n
allocating themselvesunreasonable pays, is outrightly immaterial in this<\/div>\n
case of a national tragedythat happened last Wednesday 18th April at the<\/div>\n
Senate Chambers ofthe National Assembly. It is vexing that most Nigerians<\/div>\n
are only pissed by whatthey described as \u201cassault on our democracy\u201d<\/div>\n
whatever that means but totallyignored the actual tragedy that befell the<\/div>\n
nation on that day.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Beyond Omo-Agegeand his naughtiness, does it occur to us that all our 109<\/div>\n
Senators (whether weliked them or not) could have been or rather were<\/div>\n
killed in that single attackinside the Senate Chamber?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Supposing thesix men or more terrorists that freely strolled into the<\/div>\n
Chamber with theestranged Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, came as suicide bombers<\/div>\n
to blow up the Senateand all its occupants in session, could they have<\/div>\n
succeeded or not? The answeris very clear: they actually succeeded in<\/div>\n
killing all our 109 Senators (in thatsession) including the Senate<\/div>\n
President and all the principal officers.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Where did wemiss it as a nation of serious \u2013minded people? Do terrorists<\/div>\n
come dressed inrags? No! They come dressed to deceive their<\/div>\n
targets\/security agents and\/orevade detection before they carry out their<\/div>\n
dastardly acts. This was the samething that played out at the National<\/div>\n
Assembly. The well-dressed and well-fedmiddle-age men came into the arena<\/div>\n
in high-class SUVs and other vehiclesalongside Ovie Omo-Agege posing as<\/div>\n
descent men. They walked into the senatechambers headed straight to the<\/div>\n
seat of the President where the mace was stationed.And not a single<\/div>\n
policeman, or DSS, or National Assembly security personnelsuspected any<\/div>\n
foul play and breach of security. Worst of all, no single Senatorseating<\/div>\n
in the chamber even suspected that these men walking with their<\/div>\n
estrangedcolleague could be a threat to their lives and that of the mace<\/div>\n
(their onlysymbol of authority to sit and make laws for us). Haba! What<\/div>\n
kind of flaccidpeople do we have everywhere in this country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Could there havebeen any section of the country; state; local government;<\/div>\n
or even communitiesthat would not have been affected if it were to be that<\/div>\n
in one swift attack allour 109 senators (whether they are good men\/women<\/div>\n
or not) were killed? Couldthere have been any religion: Christianity,<\/div>\n
Islam, paganism, and even atheismthat would have been spared in the grieve<\/div>\n
that would have followed such attack?Would the Hausa, Fulani,Yoruba or<\/div>\n
Igbo senators be spared from being killed insuch attack?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Until we learnto tell ourselves the bitter truth, this country will not<\/div>\n
make any meaningfulprogress. Our Senators are so naive that all they have<\/div>\n
been concerned with hasbeen the recovery of the kidnapped mace and the so<\/div>\n
called \u201cassault on ourdemocracy.\u201d None of them saw the issue of the<\/div>\n
security breach which clearlyamounts to treason and coup d\u2019\u00e9tat.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
How did theseattackers in the company of Omo-Agege beat all the security<\/div>\n
check points andmetal detectors at the National Assembly (Senate)? Does<\/div>\n
the National Assemblyhave policemen, DSS officers, and even Civil Defence<\/div>\n
personnel working toprotect the facility and people within that that<\/div>\n
premises? One would havethought that by now, all the policemen, and other<\/div>\n
security agents posted to theNational Assembly (Senate) would have been<\/div>\n
arrested and detained forinterrogation on this act that borders on<\/div>\n
negligence of duties or worst stillcomplicity in the terrorist attack at<\/div>\n
the Senate Chambers. Whether anybodywants to hear this or not, the<\/div>\n
security agents posted to the National Assemblyhave serious case to<\/div>\n
answer. The Inspector General of Police and DirectorGeneral of the<\/div>\n
Department of State Security Service should be compelled toexplain the<\/div>\n
failure of their agency to live up to their duty call.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The story of \u201corders\u201dcoming from the cabal at the Presidency asking the<\/div>\n
security agents to \u201cstepdown\u201d and allow free passage of the Omo-Agege<\/div>\n
terrorist is nonsense and anoutright escapist excuse. Get the officers to<\/div>\n
explain why they should not bepunished for allowing terrorists into the<\/div>\n
senate chambers and then let them sayit was somebody in the Presidency<\/div>\n
that asked them not to do theirconstitutionally mandated duties.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Anyhow you wantto see it, what happened at the Senate may be setting or<\/div>\n
rather has set adangerous precedent in this country and this is the more<\/div>\n
reason we must addressit without bias or partisan politicking. Today it is<\/div>\n
the Senate, tomorrow itmay be the House of Reps, and next tomorrow it may<\/div>\n
be the Presidency. Supposingit was at the Presidency, we will call it a<\/div>\n
coup plot to topple the government.Now, because it happened at the<\/div>\n
National Assembly, it was the \u201cactivity of somepolitical thugs\u201d to protest<\/div>\n
the suspension of their paymaster. Abi? Me I delaugh o!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The terroristattack at the Senate was not just a happenstance. The way<\/div>\n
they came in and headedstraight for the mace, brushed \u2013off any resistance<\/div>\n
to their escaping with themace; and their escape route which was a back<\/div>\n
door and back gate different fromthe ones they came in from, obviously<\/div>\n
shows that the attack was well-plannedand severally rehearsed before the<\/div>\n
actual launch. The Omo-Agege man should berearrested and kept in custody<\/div>\n
of the DSS because he sure has serious things totell us. Granting him bail<\/div>\n
is making light of his action except the authoritiesare confirming the<\/div>\n
wide spread insinuation that he is working with someinterest group in the<\/div>\n
Presidency.<\/div>\n

Are we going tofold our hands and let this be swept under the carpet again<\/div>\n
or stupidly turnthis into PDP-APC or National Assembly- Executive blame<\/div>\n
game? The FederalGovernment has to institute an independent apolitical<\/div>\n
investigation into theunfortunate incident at the Senate. Well, first and<\/div>\n
foremost, the SenatePresident should organise a thanksgiving service in<\/div>\n
the church\/mosque to thankGod\/Allah for bringing them back to life because<\/div>\n
