President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s attendance of the Commonwealth Heads of
\nGovernment Meeting (CHOGM) in United Kingdom, which came at huge cost to
\nthe nation, was a colossal waste.<\/p>\n
Nigerians are not surprised that the President returned last night,
\nempty handed and with no tangible dividend, a development which is the
\ndirect consequence of his negative comments about Nigerians and his
\npresentation of false performance indices to his hosts.<\/p>\n
While other commonwealth heads of state used the occasion to negotiate
\nbusinesses and showcase the potentials and opportunities in their
\ncountries, our President only succeeded in de-marketing our dear country
\nand painting our citizens, particularly the youths, in the negative.<\/p>\n
Nigerians may recall that during his meeting with British Prime
\nMinister,Theresa May, President Buhari, in the quest to hide the
\nfailures of his administration and push his 2019 re-election bid, Mr
\nPresident downplayed the worsened economic and security situation in the
\ncountry under his watch, but opted for self praise and brandishing
\nunsubstantiated record of performance.<\/p>\n
This self-serving stance ultimately blocked all beneficial bilateral
\nengagements that could have helped secure the much needed international
\ninterventions in those critical areas.<\/p>\n
Two days after, President Buhari again took the stage at the
\nCommonwealth Business Forum in London and announced to international
\ninvestors that Nigerian youths, a demography that forms the bulk of our
\nnation\u2019s workforce, are uneducated and lovers of freebies.<\/p>\n
We were therefore not surprised that no serious investor sealed any
\nmeaningful investment deal with Nigeria as dividend from the CHOGM.<\/p>\n
It is also instructive to note that despite the public outrage that
\ntrailed\u00a0 his denigration of our youths, the Buhari Presidency has not
\noffered any apology to the nation, particularly our youths, thus further
\nconfirming the disdain in which this administration holds our young men
\nand woman.<\/p>\n
Having returned from CHOGM with nothing but wasted opportunities, the
\nnext move by the Buhari Presidency would be to hugely mobilize their
\nspin-doctors with public resources and direct them to inundate the media
\nwith claims of imaginary gains in an effort to befool Nigerians.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, while we request the Presidency to immediately make public
\nthe cost of this trip on the national coffers, we note that the All
\nProgressives Congress (APC) and its Federal Government have irredeemably
\nfailed and can no longer represent our interest and aspiration as a
\nnation.<\/p>\n
Nigerians must therefore unite to save our nation from imminent collapse
\nby rallying with the repositioned platform of the PDP to enthrone a
\npurposeful and people-oriented government, come 2019.<\/p>\n
