As a direct fallout of the deliberate and concerted policies and<\/div>\n
programmes of the Senator Ben Ayade- led administration to reposition<\/div>\n
education, Cross River State\u2019s rating in both the West African Examination<\/div>\n
Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) has taken a great<\/div>\n
leap.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Goddy Ettah who disclosed this<\/div>\n
in Calabar said before the coming of the Ayade administration, the was<\/div>\n
rated 22 by WAEC out of 36 states and Abuja and had moved to position 20;<\/div>\n
while in NECO, the state has moved from 29 to the second position in the<\/div>\n
country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Hon. Ettah, also revealed that before now, WAEC had never held any of its<\/div>\n
National Conference in Cross River State, as a result of the previous poor<\/div>\n
rating of the state by the examination body, but that due to the giant<\/div>\n
strides made by Ayade leadership in this direction, the 58th National<\/div>\n
Conference of the Council is coming to Cross River.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Cross River education Commissioner explained that the current<\/div>\n
administration has frontally tackled the scourge of examination<\/div>\n
malpractices in the state and has restored the confidence of both the West<\/div>\n
African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council<\/div>\n
(NECO).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He further disclosed that in order to ensure quality teaching staff<\/div>\n
leading to quality education, teachers\u2019 audit was carried out\u00a0 to<\/div>\n
ascertained the qualifications of the teachers in the state employ, and<\/div>\n
discovered that out of 3000 teachers about 800 of them had fake<\/div>\n
certificates.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Commissioner maintained that the Governor directed that those who<\/div>\n
lacked the requisite qualification should process to further their<\/div>\n
education, and that it is based on this premise that the state government<\/div>\n
is building a Teachers\u2019 Continuous Education Centre at Biase Local<\/div>\n
Government Area of the state.<\/div>\n

When contacted, three female teachers at the Government Secondary School,<\/div>\n
Uwanse in Calabar South said that the current administration in the state<\/div>\n
has done pretty well in the area of education.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Speaking, a junior secondary school (JSS) Mathematics teacher, Mrs. Grace<\/div>\n
Asha commended the efforts of the Ayade-led administration in the vital<\/div>\n
area of education, and posited that it is a wonderful thing that under<\/div>\n
Ayade, the state has been able to improve on both WAEC and NECO rating.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Asha reasoned that in the aspect of examinations malpractices in the<\/div>\n
state, it is just a matter of time the issue will fizzle out with the<\/div>\n
level of war being waged by the Ayade government against it and hoped that<\/div>\n
the battle will be sustained by the government and other stakeholders in<\/div>\n
the educational sector in the state.<\/div>\n

Also speaking, a senior secondary school mathematics teacher, Mrs. Glory<\/div>\n
Umotong emphatically stated that Ayade has performed extremely well in the<\/div>\n
area of education especially when it comes to fighting examinations<\/div>\n
malpractices and checking to ensure that teaching staff possess qualified<\/div>\n
certificates.<\/div>\n

On her part, another senior secondary mathematics teacher, Mrs. Umoh<\/div>\n
