\u2026. Says Failure to Market Nigeria\u2019s Crude Is Economic Sabotage<\/p>\n
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) mocks President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s
\nperformance at the meeting with US President Donald Trump as
\nembarrassing as he completely failed to project the economic interests
\nof our nation before the American government and the world.<\/p>\n
It was alarming that President Buhari buckled in bilateral negotiation
\nand failed to address the issue of the drop in the US purchase of our
\ncrude oil, which is the main stay of our economy.<\/p>\n
Nigerians and the business community were aghast when President Buhari
\ncould not market our crude oil to his American counterpart even when in
\nthe course of question and answer session, a leeway was provided for
\nhim, he off-handedly declared that he cannot \u201ctell America what to do\u201d.<\/p>\n
Also President Buhari had no answers to President Trump’s stance that
\nthe US has not been investing substantially in Nigeria owing to
\nunconducive economic climate under his administration, further
\nconfirming the stand of the PDP that the All Progressives Congress (APC)
\nis running a moribund economy<\/p>\n
More disturbing is the revelation by President Trump that the US has
\nbeen supporting Nigeria with the sum of $1bn annually whereas President
\nBuhari, in his script, announced that Nigeria received only $500m last
\nyear.<\/p>\n
We had expected President Buhari, as the \u2018African Champion on
\nAnti-Corruption\u2019, to immediately respond to President Trump on the
\nwhereabouts of the shortfall of $500m.<\/p>\n
It is also inexcusable that President Buhari had no answers to the
\nsecurity situation of daily bloodletting and mass killings in Nigeria,
\nwhich President Trump described as \u201chorrible\u201d. Instead, he restricted
\nhimself to his script, which was silent on the issue. By this, the
\nAmerican government has summarily indicted President Buhari\u2019s government
\non its failure to ensure security of lives and property of citizens.<\/p>\n
On the whole, the visit surmises photo-ops of President Buhari in the
\nWhite House in a bilateral session where President Trump was committed
\nto marketing the US to the most populous black nation.<\/p>\n
