Yakubu Dogara, has said that prosecution cannot come at the expense<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">of death, warning against Police brutality of Senator Dino Melaye.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Senator Melaye was rearrested by the Police in court on Wednesday after<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the magistrate court granted him bail. The Police took him away from the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">court premises in a convoy which comprised an ambulance carrying the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Senator.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The Senator was arraigned at a Kogi State Magistrate on Thursday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Reacting on Senator Melaye&#8217;s travails, the Speaker noted with dismay the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">arbitrary abuse of legal process by the Nigeria Police.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">According to him:<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;All I can say is that nothing can happen to the senator. If anyone in<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">this country commits an offence, the law is there for the person to be<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">prosecuted or arraigned in court within the ambit of the law.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;I don\u2019t think the law supports a situation whereby someone is in a dire<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">health situation and is being arraigned most especially that that person<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">is a senator.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;It is unthinkable that a distinguished senator or an honorable member of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">this house would run away from trial.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;So, my admonition to the security agencies is to do everything possible<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">to ensure that his life is secured first before prosecution.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Prosecution cannot come at the expense of death and that is very<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">important because if anything happened to him, the responsibility will lie<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">on the security agencies.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;That is without mincing of words; because I have not seen a country where<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">someone will be arraigned in a stretcher; where he is not even in the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">right frame of mind to even take a plea.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;What use is it if you\u2019re taken someone to court and he cannot plead<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">guilty or not guilty. So, the emphasis should be on his health first.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The Speaker\u2019s warning followed a point of order by Rep.
