{"id":62176,"date":"2018-05-13T22:50:38","date_gmt":"2018-05-13T21:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=62176"},"modified":"2018-05-13T22:50:38","modified_gmt":"2018-05-13T21:50:38","slug":"buharis-govt-has-destroyed-national-assembly-judiciary-fayose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/buharis-govt-has-destroyed-national-assembly-judiciary-fayose\/","title":{"rendered":"Buhari\u2019s govt has destroyed National Assembly, Judiciary\u00a0 &#8211; Fayose"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has lamented the destruction<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">of the Legislative and Judicial arms of government by the government<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">of President Muhammadu Buhari, raising the alarm that \u201cdemocracy in<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Nigeria is under serious threat, with the constitution appearing to<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">have been suspended.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The governor said; \u201cThe once respected National Assembly and Judiciary<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">have been so badly blackmailed such that for the first time in the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">history of Nigeria, functionaries of the executive arm of government<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">now hold the two arms of government with contempt, treating them as if<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">they do not exist. Even those who invaded the senate and took away the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Mace are being protected by President Buhari and his men.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, who described the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Legislative and Judicial arms as the pillar of democracy, said; \u201cEven<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">when Nigeria was under military rule, our judiciary was not this<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">ridiculed, with the government choosing which court judgment to obey<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">and which one to ignore.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The governor pointed out that; \u201cPresident Buhari\u2019s persistent refusal<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">to obey court orders, refusal of the his men to obey summons by the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">National Assembly and most importantly the withdrawal of $496 million<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) without approval of the National<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Assembly and inspite of pending court case are indications that the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">constitution has been suspended and Nigeria returned to full-fledged<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">dictatorship.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Governor Fayose described the Senate President, Bukola Saraki as the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">most subdued National Assembly leader in the history of Nigeria,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">saying; \u201cShould President Buhari succeeds with his second term bid, no<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">one should bother going to the National Assembly because he will rule<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">like a feudal lord, with general authority over other Nigerians.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u201cDemocracy is endangered when the executive arm of government goes<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">about demonizing the Judiciary as being corrupt and the National<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Assembly tagged as a gathering of rascals who are contributing nothing<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">to governance. Unfortunately, that is what the Legislative and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Judicial arms have suffered under this government.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIn disobedience to court order that they should be released, the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, and his<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">wife, Zeenat, have been detained for more than two years without<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">trial.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAlso, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) has been in detention for over two<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">years even when many courts in Nigeria and the ECOWAS Court have<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">ordered for his release.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u201cSeveral resolutions made by the National Assembly have been ignored,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">including ones bothering on the welfare of Nigerians. Statutory<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">appointments that require Senate confirmation are now being made<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">unilaterally.
