Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has accused the All<\/div>\n
Progressives Congress (APC) of connivance with the Independent<\/div>\n
National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the July 14 governorship<\/div>\n
election in the State by using students of the Federal University, Oye<\/div>\n
Ekiti (FUOYE) as INEC ad-hoc staff for the election, instead of youth<\/div>\n
corps members.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The governor, who made this known while addressing journalists in Ado<\/div>\n
Ekiti, on Friday, described President Muhammadu Buhari comment that<\/div>\n
the Ekiti 2014 governorship election was characterized by \u201chanky<\/div>\n
panky\u201d, as unfortunate, saying he was not surprised because the<\/div>\n
President was no longer in touch with realities and also not in charge<\/div>\n
of his own government.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said that the Vice Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof Kayode Soremekun, was<\/div>\n
a card carrying member of the APC and a close ally of the party\u2019s<\/div>\n
candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, accusing him of rigging elections for<\/div>\n
the APC in the past.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Fayose said \u201cthe idea behind this plot is to recruit APC<\/div>\n
members from neighbouring States, arm them with FUOYE students<\/div>\n
Identity Cards and use them as INEC Presiding and Returning Officers<\/div>\n
to perfect the planned rigging of the election. This will fail.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The statement read; \u201cRecall that the President said categorically that<\/div>\n
Ekiti State must be taken by the APC at all cost.\u00a0 Instead of his<\/div>\n
empty boast that his party must capture the State by whatever means,<\/div>\n
the President should rather tell Ekiti people what he has done for<\/div>\n
them in the last three and half years.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cToday, we are beginning to receive signals to the effect that<\/div>\n
clandestine moves are being made to subvert the will of Ekiti people.<\/div>\n
With the failure of their \u201cOndo Option\u201d, other evil means are now<\/div>\n
being devised.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cDespite that we have over 9,000 Youth Corps members in Ekiti State<\/div>\n
and it has been the general practice to engage the NYSC members in<\/div>\n
elections across the country, the APC in collusion with INEC has asked<\/div>\n
that students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) be<\/div>\n
recruited as INEC ad-hoc staff for the election, instead of youth<\/div>\n
corps members.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cWe are in possession of an Internal Memorandum from the office of the<\/div>\n
Dean of Students Affairs, FUOYE seeking registration of students of<\/div>\n
the University as INEC Presiding and Returning Officers for the<\/div>\n
Election.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cAs I speak, over 2,000 supposed FUOYE students have been registered;<\/div>\n
with a curious condition that they should provide Bank Account details<\/div>\n
of their close relations, apparently to avoid tracing any payment into<\/div>\n
their own accounts.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThe question is; with over 9,000 Youth Corps members in Ekiti State,<\/div>\n
what is the need for FUOYE students in an election that is holding in<\/div>\n
less than 2,200 polling units?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cOur counsel is that parents, guardians and families of FUOYE students<\/div>\n
should prevail on their wards to shun this Greek gift and avoid being<\/div>\n
used by desperate politicians.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cINEC, too, must come clean on this. The electoral umpire must tell<\/div>\n
the public the rationale behind the plot to jettison Youth Corps<\/div>\n
members for supposed FUOYE students.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cOn President Buhari\u2019s reported comment that the Ekiti 2014<\/div>\n
governorship election was characterized by \u201chanky panky\u201d, I am not<\/div>\n
surprised at all because he is no longer in touch with realities. The<\/div>\n
president is not even in charge of his own government.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cTherefore, I am not surprised that such a statement came from the<\/div>\n
president. That was the same President who said Nigerian youths are<\/div>\n
lazy and that Nigerians living abroad are criminals. He can also<\/div>\n
afford to indict his own country by saying that agencies of the<\/div>\n
federal government were involved in electoral fraud, even when the<\/div>\n
United States Government commended them.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThe president runs to the United States of America at all times and<\/div>\n
believe in the US government even more than himself. This same US<\/div>\n
government said clearly that the election was free, fair and<\/div>\n
transparent.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cHowever, let me tell the President and his men that they will be<\/div>\n
disgraced here in Ekiti because the power of the people is greater<\/div>\n
than the power of those in power.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cWe hereby call on all men of good conscience to stand up and be<\/div>\n
counted in the fight against dictatorship, election rigging and the<\/div>\n
plot to subvert democracy in Nigeria. 2019 general elections is close<\/div>\n
by and Ekiti as well as Osun elections are prelude to what to expect<\/div>\n
in 2019.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThe international community must prevail on INEC and the Buhari<\/div>\n
administration to allow free, fair and credible election in Ekiti<\/div>\n
