Mustafa Maihaja, over a controversial N5.6billion contract<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">fraud.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The House Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness also directed<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the office of the Accountant General of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the Federation, the ministry of Finance and other relevant parties to<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">furnish the committee with all transaction details of N5.6 billion funds<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">released to four companies in relation to the Emergency Food Programme in<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the North East.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Maihaja was allegedly found to have expended over N5bn on companies that<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">have no legal qualifications to get contract awards from the federal<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">government.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The committee made this demand after another investigative session on the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">alleged breach of trust by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the National Assembly.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">According to the committee, the documents are to guide the panel to<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">uncover the mystery surrounding the release of funds and to establish<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">whether it was given to the companies as a loan or under whatever<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">condition.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The decision to ask for the documents arose when beneficiaries of the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">contract to mop up grains, which were said to have been distributed in the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">North East, and the accountant general of the federation said they were<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">selected for the job without asking for a loan to finance it from the CBN,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">while the Central Bank, on the other hand, insisted that the N5.6 billion<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">was a loan.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Chairman of the committee, Hon Ali Isa J.C, also summoned the director<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">general of NEMA to appear in its next sitting or face a warrant of arrest<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">issued on him to compel him to appear.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">This is the third consecutive time the DG is failing to attend the hearing<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">despite repeated invitations from the committee.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Hon Ali said the agency has a penchant for sending notice of its DG\u2019s<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">absence from the meeting either 30 minutes before the hearing commences or<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">when the hearing has already commenced.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He added that the panel will give him one more chance to appear on the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">31st of May, 2018, or face sanctions.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives has threatened to issue a warrant of arrest against the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,Eng.
