{"id":62455,"date":"2018-06-01T18:02:31","date_gmt":"2018-06-01T17:02:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=62455"},"modified":"2018-06-01T18:02:32","modified_gmt":"2018-06-01T17:02:32","slug":"efcc-bungles-again-as-court-acquits-former-nimasa-dg-akpobolokemi-of-n2-6billion-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/efcc-bungles-again-as-court-acquits-former-nimasa-dg-akpobolokemi-of-n2-6billion-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC Bungles Again As Court Acquits Former NIMASA DG, Akpobolokemi of N2.6billion Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, has discharged and acquitted a former<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi, who was charged with an alleged<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">fraud of N2.6bn.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">A three-man appellate court panel led by Justice Yargatta Nimpar, upheld a<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">no-case submission filed by Akpolokemi in response to the criminal<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">charges.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on December 4, 2015<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">arraigned Akpobolokemi alongside five others for allegedly diverting<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">N2.6bn from the coffers of NIMASA between December 2013, and May 2015.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The funds, the anti-graft agency claimed, were approved by ex-President<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Goodluck Jonathan for the implementation of a security project, tagged,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u201cInternational Ship and Ports Security Code in Nigeria Ports.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Arguing Akpobolokemi\u2019s no-case submission,\u00a0 his counsel Nwobike contended<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">that the EFCC failed to link his client with the alleged diversion of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">funds from NIMASA. Nwobike pointed out that his signature to such effect<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">was never shown to the court.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He said that the first accused could not be held liable because he did not<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">approve the security project and the money disbursed.
