{"id":62639,"date":"2018-06-19T02:52:58","date_gmt":"2018-06-19T01:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=62639"},"modified":"2018-06-19T02:52:58","modified_gmt":"2018-06-19T01:52:58","slug":"wike-swears-in-newly-elected-local-government-council-chairmen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/wike-swears-in-newly-elected-local-government-council-chairmen\/","title":{"rendered":"WIKE SWEARS-IN NEWLY ELECTED\u00a0 LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL CHAIRMEN"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has sworn-in the 23 Local<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Government Council Chairmen elected during the June 16, 2018 Local<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Government\u00a0 Elections conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Commission (RSIEC).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Performing the swearing-in at the Executive Council Chambers on Monday,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Governor Wike charged the council chairmen\u00a0 to prioritise payment of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">salaries, promotion of security and environmental sanitation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He said: &#8220;Now that you have\u00a0 emerged through a credible process, you must<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">prioritise payment of salaries. This is key as no excuses will be<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">tolerated.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Council money is for salaries, development of the areas and security. You<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">should endeavour to leave legacies of development across the state. Make a<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">difference through the\u00a0 development of your local government areas.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He advised the newly sworn-in local government council chairmen to work<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">closely with security agencies in their local government areas.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;You must create avenues of cooperation with all the security agencies.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">That\u00a0 will help\u00a0 you create the right environment for development to take<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">place\u00a0 in your areas&#8221;, he said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The governor charged the council chairmen of Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Degema to develop the right platforms to ensure that their communities are<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">safe.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He challenged the council chairmen of Port Harcourt City Local Government<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Area, Obio\/Akpor Local Government Area, Ikwerre Local Government Area,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Oyigbo Local Government Area and Eleme Local Government Area to take<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">serious steps to ensure they\u00a0 clean specific areas of their councils.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Governor Wike urged the council chairmen to work amicably with their<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">councillors to avoid unnecessary conflicts that will cripple\u00a0 their<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">councils.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">On the conduct of the Local Government Elections, Governor Wike commended<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the security agencies for providing security for the peaceful and credible<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">conduct of the polls.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He also commended the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission for<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">conducting free, fair and credible polls.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The swearing-in ceremony was attended by leaders of the state,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">commissioners and party chieftains.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has sworn-in the 23 Local Government Council Chairmen elected during the June 16, 2018 Local Government\u00a0 Elections conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":62640,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-62639","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
