Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has called on the federal government to arrest<\/div>\n
leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN)<\/div>\n
and the perpetrators of the heinous crime.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The call came as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Wednesday said<\/div>\n
218 persons were killed during the crisis, against 86 reported by the<\/div>\n
police.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
MBF said that with leadership of Miyetti claiming that the attacks were<\/div>\n
retaliatory, there should be no delay on the part of government in<\/div>\n
arresting leaders of the association.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the President of the Middle Belt<\/div>\n
Forum, Dr Bitrus Pogu, said the entire Middle Belt had been under siege<\/div>\n
for the past two decades, saying states like Southern Kaduna, Benue,<\/div>\n
Nasarawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Kogi, Southern Borno and Plateau had been the<\/div>\n
theatres of an undeclared war.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cA few days ago, Plateau state was once again the theatre of barbaric,<\/div>\n
unspeakable, despicable and demonic massacre of our people. Over 200<\/div>\n
persons were murdered by persons purported to be Fulani herdsmen\u2019\u2019, the<\/div>\n
forum added.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cOur conclusion therefore, is that this is evidence of high level<\/div>\n
complicity by the security forces. The recent twist to the genocide in the<\/div>\n
Middle Belt is that after each round of these killings, the Miyetti Allah<\/div>\n
Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) or the Miyetti Allah<\/div>\n
Kautal Haure have claimed responsibility for the killings.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cIn Benue and Taraba, the Miyetti Allah opposed the passage of the Anti<\/div>\n
-Open Grazing Prohibition Laws of those states and openly declared that<\/div>\n
the killings were a direct consequence of their opposition. Just a few<\/div>\n
days ago and immediately after the genocide in Plateau, the Miyetti Allah<\/div>\n
claimed responsibility and their justification was that over 300 cows were<\/div>\n
stolen by some indigenous Berom youths.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Pogu maintained that in all of these cases, the leadership of the Miyetti<\/div>\n
Allah had neither been arrested nor had the government banned the<\/div>\n
\u2018\u2019murderous\u2019\u2019 organisation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The forum also called on the President to immediately direct arrest of the<\/div>\n
leadership of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and Miyetti Allah Cattle<\/div>\n
Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) for investigation and<\/div>\n
prosecution, and also immediately direct the Attorney General and Minister<\/div>\n
of Justice to set in motion the process for the proscription of these two<\/div>\n
organisations.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Explaining the negative impact of the killings, Pogu stressed that though<\/div>\n
the forum was not concerned about politics, the increasing cases of<\/div>\n
killings would in the long run reduce the voting strength of the Middle<\/div>\n
Belt region in the 2019 general elections.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He added, \u201cNaturally when such genocide happened, people are going to<\/div>\n
move, and it is going to affect the voting strength of the Middle Belt.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The group accused the security agencies of complacency, calling on<\/div>\n
President Buhari to immediately reconstitute the top echelon of the<\/div>\n
security forces. It said the peoples of the Middle Belt had every reason<\/div>\n
to suspect that the top echelon of the security forces was unwilling or<\/div>\n
unable to protect them.<\/div>\n

According to the forum, \u201cThe refusal of the Inspector General of Police to<\/div>\n
stay in Makurdi as directed by the President and Commander in Chief in<\/div>\n
January 2018 and the recent comment of the Minister of Defence directing<\/div>\n
states to suspend the Anti-Open Grazing Prohibition Laws of their various<\/div>\n
states, are clear evidence that they are neither interested, willing or<\/div>\n
able to be fair to the people of the Middle Belt.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The forum also tasked President Buhari and National Assembly members to<\/div>\n
expedite action by ensuring that the country is restructured, in order to<\/div>\n
resolve some of the current crises bedevilling the nation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
On its part, CAN said contrary to the Police\u2019s report, 218 persons had<\/div>\n
been confirmed dead as a result of the crisis.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In a graphic presentation of those killed by Fulani herdsmen, CAN<\/div>\n
President, Rev. Supo Ayokunle, explained that about 37 villages in Plateau<\/div>\n
State had been under constant attacks from Fulani herdsmen in the last<\/div>\n
three months.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said, \u201cFollowing the killings that took place on the Plateau, CAN has<\/div>\n
obtained reliable information on the number of dead as recorded in B\/Ladi<\/div>\n
& Riyom LGAs from Saturday, 23 to Monday 25 June, 2018.\u2019\u2019<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Listing the number of death, the CAN President named Gashish District,<\/div>\n
Nhyer \u2013 80; Exland(G\/Akwati) \u2013 40; Ruku \u2013 34, Kakuruk \u2013 6; Kuzen \u2013 5;<\/div>\n
totalling 165<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Others include, Ropp District: Gana Ropp \u2013 34; Razat \u2013 1; Kwang Jot Near<\/div>\n
Gen. Hospital (Takwok) \u2013 1; Rakwok \u2013 2, totalling \u2013 38.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In Bachi District: Shonong 8 people were killed while death toll in Riyom<\/div>\n
District were: Kwi recorded 1; Heipang District: Chit Heipang 2; Vwang<\/div>\n
District: K-Vom Vwang Jos South 1 (OPSH Killing); Zawan District: Anguldi<\/div>\n
\u2013 3 (OPSH Killings), with grand total of 218 deaths.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cApart from the total number of those killed, there are still missing<\/div>\n
persons. Many people also sustained various degrees of injuries\u201d, CAN<\/div>\n
added.<\/div>\n

The Christian group called on President Buhari to replace all the security<\/div>\n
chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, saying they have overstayed<\/div>\n
their welcome.<\/div>\n

According to the group, \u201cIt is ridiculous and embarrassing that in the<\/div>\n
last three years, none of these criminals have been apprehended, detained,<\/div>\n
arraigned and convicted.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThis is what is emboldening them to kill the innocent with impunity. We<\/div>\n
are approaching a state of anarchy faster than we can imagine. Why are we<\/div>\n
following the footpath of Rwanda daily with these unprecedented killings<\/div>\n
