The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged President Muhammadu
\nBuhari to speak out on the allegation of illegal award of oil contracts
\nworth $25 billion (N9 trillion) under his watch.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP’s Spokesman, the party
\nlaments that the alleged complicity of the Buhari Presidency
\ncoupled with Mr. President\u2019s failure to address the reported fraudulent
\ncontracts awarded through the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation
\n(NNPC) has earned the nation a huge embarrassment of being labeled a
\n\u2018kleptocracy\u2019 in the international arena.<\/p>\n
Nigerians wonder how President Buhari and his handlers felt when they
\nread the new book by a former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, John
\nCampbell and former US Intelligence Community Expert on Nigeria, Matthew
\nPage, where our dear nation was described as \u2018a kleptocracy\u2019, because of
\nthe humongous corruption, festering unchecked, in the Buhari
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
The new book has further vindicated the stance of the PDP that
\ncorruption has skyrocketed under President Buhari, as also emphasized in
\nreports by other international bodies, including the United States
\nDepartment of State, the Amnesty International (AI) and Transparency
\nInternational (TI), which recently declared that corruption has
\nescalated in Nigeria under President Buhari, despite his nebulous
\nanti-corruption claims.<\/p>\n
The book also aligns with our party\u2019s position that President Buhari\u2019s
\nincompetence, utterances and failure to live up to expectation as the
\nfather and chief security officer of the nation are directly responsible
\nfor the escalated acrimony, bloodletting and killings in various parts
\nof our country in the last three years.<\/p>\n
Indeed, as captured by the book, the impunity and constitutional
\nviolations by Buhari administration has done a lot of harm against our
\nnation, while his failure to address the endemic corruption in his
\nadministration, particularly in the Petroleum sector, where he presides
\nas the Minister of Petroleum Resources, is hurting the image of our
\nnation.<\/p>\n
President Buhari has failed to address the alleged stealing of N1.1
\ntrillion worth of crude oil as well as the sleazy oil subsidy deals by
\ninterests close to his administration.<\/p>\n
President Buhari has failed to address the alleged diversion of N18
\nbillion Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) fund. He has also refused to
\naddress the alleged stealing of N10 billion National Health Insurance
\nScheme (NHIS) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) by APC officials
\nand Presidency cabal, among other sharp practices in his government.<\/p>\n
The PDP therefore urges Nigerians and the international community to
\nimpress it on President Buhari to save our nation from further
\nembarrassment by ending the official concealment of corruption in his
\npresidency and open his administration for an independent inquest on
\ncorruption.<\/p>\n
