Themed<br \/>\n\u201cRaising a Child with Autism, the Role of Family and the Community\u201d the<br \/>\ntwo-day conference is part of the Bank\u2019s Annual Autism Program, which<br \/>\nbrings together globally renowned medical specialists, parents,<br \/>\ncaregivers, health practitioners and concerned members of the public to<br \/>\nshare ideas on how to support children and adults living with Autism.<\/p>\n<p>According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 160 children live with<br \/>\nAutism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) worldwide. In Nigeria, the condition is<br \/>\nhardly diagnosed, rarely understood and children with ASD often suffer<br \/>\nstigmatization. In response to these challenges, GTBank launched the<br \/>\nOrange Ribbon Initiative to support children and adults living with Autism<br \/>\nand other developmental disabilities. Through this initiative, the Bank<br \/>\nhas, over the last 7 years, offered more than 14,000 people training on<br \/>\nhow to manage ASD, provided free one-on-one consultation services to over<br \/>\n3,200 children and led a sustained campaign to tackle the stigma facing<br \/>\npeople living with Autism.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the Bank\u2019s Autism Programme will begin with the 2018 Autism<br \/>\nConference which is free to attend and open to the general public. The<br \/>\nconference will also be streamed live on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/gtbank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/facebook.com\/gtbank&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1531236873733000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHipxbYsWljddNWRFAn0_Wi9I9PSA\">facebook.com\/gtbank<\/a>\u00a0and people<br \/>\nacross all social media platforms can also join the conversation by using<br \/>\nthe hashtag #BeAVoice. Following the Autism conference will be free<br \/>\none-on-one consultations for children with Autism and other developmental<br \/>\nchallenges as well as counselling of their parents and guardians. There<br \/>\nwill also be sessions for Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, Behaviour<br \/>\nAnalysis, Audiology, Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychiatry,<br \/>\nPhysiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy. These sessions will hold from<br \/>\n<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2060029192\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Thursday July 19 to Monday July 23, 2018<\/span><\/span>\u00a0at Digital Village, Alausa,<br \/>\nLagos.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the 8th Annual Autism Awareness Conference, Mr Segun Agbaje,<br \/>\nthe Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Bank<br \/>\nplc, said; \u201cLike every other child, children with Autism have big dreams<br \/>\nand amazing talents to contribute to our society, but they need all our<br \/>\nsupport to rise above their present difficulties.
