{"id":62944,"date":"2018-07-12T01:12:53","date_gmt":"2018-07-12T00:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=62944"},"modified":"2018-07-12T01:12:53","modified_gmt":"2018-07-12T00:12:53","slug":"tambuwal-condemns-killing-of-policemen-commiserates-with-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/tambuwal-condemns-killing-of-policemen-commiserates-with-families\/","title":{"rendered":"Tambuwal Condemns Killing of Policemen, Commiserates With Families"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has decried the state of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">insecurity and killing in Nigeria, saying the country cannot make any<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">progress with mourners everyday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">In a statement he personally signed and made available to<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Pointblanknews.com, Tambuwal said the spate of killings calls for<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">immediate overhaul of the security department in the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The statement reads:<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;I wish to commiserate with the families, friends, colleagues and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">associates of all our beloved fellow citizens, who lost their lives in the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">persistent and senseless killings now occuring in all parts of our dear<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Indeed, the growing spate of mindless shedding of innocent blood,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">especially of policemen and other security personnel on their lawful duty<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">posts, has brought a new dimension to the reprehensible state of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">insecurity in the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Last May, three policemen were shot dead in Sokoto State by kidnappers,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">who abducted a Syrian national they were escorting. A few days later, four<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">police officers were ambushed and killed in Benue State. Last week seven<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">policemen were reportedly gunned down in cold blood in Abuja, and their<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">arms and ammunition taken, by unknown persons.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;This is happening amidst repeatedly reported cases of attacks on police<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">stations and other security facilities in various parts of the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The question from every law abiding citizen today is: &#8220;Who will protect<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">us, when even those constitutionally charged with the responsibility of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">protecting our lives and property have, themselves, become vulnerable<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">targets of criminals? Where shall we run to for protection, when the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">institutions of State put in place to protect us are being progressively<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">dismantled by opportunistic criminality and the trained personnel are also<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">on the run?<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;It bears repeating for me to state here that Nigeria&#8217;s security<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">architecture and the strategies currently adopted and deployed for<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">national security, if any, need a comprehensive overhaul. It is not<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">working. The needless waste of life everywhere, both those of trained<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">security personnel and ordinary citizens, is a drain on the nation&#8217;s<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">resources and an unacceptable diminution of our valuable human capital.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Every policeman or military personnel is someone&#8217;s father,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">mother,brother, sister,uncle, aunt or friend. The number and frequency of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">deaths is undermining our humanity, making us less sensitive to the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">gravity of the situation we are in today and also creating a new<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">generation of Nigerians, who may get accustomed to inhuman acts as the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">norm.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The worst part of all this is that these deaths are avoidable and the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">killings preventable. It boils down, at the end of the day, to failure of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">leadership. Nigeria cannot progress and be part of a 21st Century forward<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">looking world by creating new batches of mourners every other day. This is<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">not the way to go. That is not what Nigerians voted for in 2015. That is<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">not what will build a virile, united, united, politically stable and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">economically prosperous African Giant.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Signed:<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Dr. Hon.
