Ex-deputy governor of Abia state, Comrade Chris Akomas has declared<\/div>\n
interest to contest the governorship position of the state in the 2019<\/div>\n
election, stressing that he only needs four years to set Abia on the path<\/div>\n
of solid economic growth.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Making this known during a meeting with the State Working Committee and<\/div>\n
other stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress, APC, from the 17<\/div>\n
council areas of the state at his country home, Nenu in Obingwa council<\/div>\n
area , Akomas\u00a0 who is a member of the Board of Trustees of the party,<\/div>\n
explained that\u00a0 a four year term\u00a0 would be enough for him to implement his<\/div>\n
policies and programmes which will bring rapid development to the state.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He insisted that there is an urgent need to make good things happen in<\/div>\n
Abia in order to return the state to its deserved place in the comity of<\/div>\n
states in Nigeria and beyond.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said, \u201cThere is an urgent need to make good things happen in Abia. And<\/div>\n
that cannot happen unless there is the passion, zeal, experience,<\/div>\n
knowledge, network, reach and where to go and what to do to make that<\/div>\n
happen. I\u2019m a national political player, I have the experience and I know<\/div>\n
what to do and where to go, I know where to cut off to save money .In<\/div>\n
Abia, we have growth centres that have remained moribund. I know what to<\/div>\n
do to ensure sustainable growth for the state`. Abia is blessed with<\/div>\n
creativity and technical knowhow with lots of human resources, there is<\/div>\n
need to harness them to make things better. Abia was one of the most<\/div>\n
advanced states in the past, but now we are far apart and there is need to<\/div>\n
turn things around. I appreciate Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his campaign<\/div>\n
for made in Nigerian products and the work he has been doing. But we can<\/div>\n
do much better. Abians need to be proud of where they came from. This is<\/div>\n
why I m contesting.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
On whether a single tenure would be enough for him to develop the state,<\/div>\n
Akomas said he has been a proponent of a single tenure in office,<\/div>\n
describing it as enough for a committed and visionary governor to make<\/div>\n
impact in governance.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cWhen I was contesting for governor in 2011, I did say that all I need was<\/div>\n
two and half years .After that people can check what we have achieved and<\/div>\n
judge for themselves. Four years is enough, in four years, we will achieve<\/div>\n
something that people would wonder if happened within four years. I don\u2019t<\/div>\n
need more than four years to set a solid foundation. How many did it take<\/div>\n
Chris Ngige to set Anambra state on the path of progress? He did only 3<\/div>\n
years and cleared salary and pension arrears and set Anambra on where it<\/div>\n
is today. Peter Obi came and continued on that path. Willie Obiano came in<\/div>\n
and cannot do less on what has been done.<\/div>\n

He charged the people of Abia North and Abia Central zones to support Abia<\/div>\n
South zone to complete second term in the spirit of unity and equity among<\/div>\n
the component units of the state.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
While commending Akomas for his commitment to the party, Chairman of the<\/div>\n
APC in the state, Chief Donatus Nwankpa , represented by his deputy,<\/div>\n
Ogunka Adiele, assured of a level playing field for all aspirants and<\/div>\n
reiterated that the party has been re-positioned to win the governorship<\/div>\n
